Dear Martinez Family,
My sincerest and deepest condolences. I met your dad at the hospital when I went to see your mom in the hospital as he was there. I remember thinking to myself he is a good man for coming to see his "ex-wife". I was right- I know that after reading all the nice things you all have said about him. May he rest in peace and may God bless you all!

Okay, my best memory of Tony is the day I met him.
My friends and I were cruising Randolph Park in my 1974 lime green Nova on a hot summer day in July of 1974. My friend, Julie Membrila, already knew Tony and his friends (Rudy Duarte, Fernando Valenzuela & Sergio, Eugene Garcia, Jessie Ortiz, just to name a few) who were there that day too. So, we stopped to chat. Julie introduced me to Tony and that's when he and I started to get acquainted. Soon after that day, I remember going to dances at St. Augustine's Cathedral, The Spanish Trail, Nano's, The Casino and Del Rio Ballrooms. I felt like I was “All-That-And-A- Bag-Of-Chips” because I was able to say, “Oh, I'm with the band!!”
Fast forwarding though,
While our married life together was short-lived, Tony and I remained friends throughout the next 39 years. We share two beautiful children, Tony and Lorayne, plus our 7 grandchildren; Daniel, Anthony, Ruben, Nicole, Diego, Gabriel & Lydia.
I was pleased to see him in my hospital room 2 years ago when I needed emergency surgery. He was concerned about me and knowing that just warmed my heart; groggy as I was!! On July 16th, I went to visit Tony, as in past times that he had been hospitalized. I held his hand and said, “Tony? It's Lillian. I'm here…” Probecito, he opened his eyes, somewhat lifted his head & tried to say something to me but he couldn't get the words out. Only God knows what he wanted to tell me. In my heart, I know that he knew that I was there. I told him that everything was going to be okay and he shook his head “No.” He knew the inevitable.
I squeezed his hand one last time while he was alive. I gave him my blessing and we waited with him until he took his last breath at 9:47 PM. I remember thinking, “Now and at the hour of our death, Amen…” seconds after he was gone. He is finally at Peace; no, worries and best of all he is pain-free. Tony, may your Soul watch over our children, grandchildren AND DON'T FORGET ME TOO! ?
Rest In Peace, Tony. See you when I see you…..
Love,
Lillian

Dad I love you & I already miss you.... l am going to miss our talks on the phone, I am going to miss our little lunch dates that we would have after I would take you to your Dr. appointments. I remember when I was little how you would always take us to the drive in or the swap meet on the weekends and how we would go to nana's and tata's and watch Mike Tyson fights on HBO with Tata. Just being able to spend time with you was something I enjoyed, like when I was able to drive and got my own car you would always fix them for me when they would brake down which was often because I my first cars were hoopties.I could always count on you for that and never had to worry because my dad could fix it for me plus I got to see you for for a few hours. I remember you were fixing my car and it was a Saturday and my car wasn't done so you offered me your brown Gran Torino for the night... I was 16 and that we drank our first beer together then you gave me the keys and told me to be careful & that you loved me. I could see the look in your eyes, you were so happy that night, but I was happier because you always had that car so clean I never saw a speck of dust on it & I felt like a million bucks that night !!!! Thanks DAD !!!!
Dad you are one of the strongest men I will ever know, the last past few years for were hard for all of us to see you as you were getting weaker as every year would pass. But as your body was getting weaker, your heart and your spirit were as strong as ever, anyone else would have giving up, you never stopped fighting in fact you had to fight harder as the years past & every time I would go to see you the big smile on your face let me know you were happy to see me no matter how much pain you were in.
I last saw my dad 4 days before he passed it was a Saturday afternoon and never in my wildest dreams did I ever think that would be the last time I would see him if i knew that i would have spent the whole weekend there and never left, he gave the kids $35 and told me to take them to eat some pizza as a treat from TATA ! The kids were sooo happy and told me to tell you THANKS TATA !!! I am glad this will be the last memory they have of their Tata as he was so happy to see the smiles on their faces when he gave them the money. We all told him we loved him and made plans to see him the following Saturday which sadly never came, even though it beaks my heart to lose you Dad I am happy for the times we had, watch over and take care of all of us like I know you will. Dad when we meet again in heaven have a 12 pack of cold Miller Lite waiting for me so we can have have a drink together and I can see your smile again!
I love you Dad, we all love you,
Stephanie, Anthony, Nicole, Diego, & Lydia
