Vinson HOLCK Obituary

HOLCK, Vinson K. age 65, of Tucson, died November 24, 2017. Born April 26, 1952, in Honolulu, Hawaii, he was the son of the late Joseph Holck and Amy Kalahikiola Montero. Vinson is survived by and married to Joyce A. Burney, his best friend. Vinson was first and foremost a martial artist who began his training at the age of five in Hawaii. He retired from the martial arts in 2013. He was 61 and had attained the rank of 10th Degree Black Belt. Vinson enlisted in the 162nd Fighter Wing of the AZ Air National Guard in his senior year of high school. He was 17. He was retired from the Air National Guard in June 2006. In 1973 he became an officer with the Tucson Police Department. He would say that being a police officer was the most fun where he also faced some of the saddest times in his life. Vinson retired in 1993. Vinson is survived by his children, Kai Holck of California, Tiffany Hayes of Alaska, Blair Holck of Gilbert, AZ and Sheena Carew of Wisconsin, with seven grandchildren. Vinson was preceded in death by his father and a brother. A Memorial and Celebration of Life will follow on Saturday December 2, 2017 at Pantano Baptist Church, 225 South Pantano Road, at 10:00 a.m. Vinson will be interred in his home state of Hawaii. Arrangements by BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL.

No, No, No, Dai Shihan Vinson is not gone. He will be in our hearts and memories forever. Dai Shihan Vinson was not only an amazing Martial Artist and a charismatic man but also a great son, husband, father, and a great instructor. He inspired many, and our family especially, to do our best. We will keep his legacy.

I would not be the person I am today without Dai-Shihan Vince. I do not remember a time when he was not part of my life. To me, he embodied all the aspects of jujitsu: strong and powerful yet calm and controlled. He had a way of drawing you in when he spoke, never raising his voice but capturing your attention nonetheless. He was an incredible teacher, always ready to share his knowledge and always driving his students to do better. Aloha, Dai-Shihan Vince, you will not be forgotten.

Some people have a gift with words, and what they say stays with you not matter time or distance. Dai-Shihan was one of these people. When he spoke, you listened. And you remembered.
When I was maybe 6 or 7, at what must have been one of my first few tests, and is perhaps my very first memory of Dai-Shihan, he sat us down for a chat. There he had us, a line of wiggly children full of energy and nerves and talked to us about respecting the other students and waiting quietly and patiently for our turn without causing a disruption. His speech may have been a bit much for our short attention spans but his parting words of wisdom were not: "I don't want to see you out here itching your nose and picking your butt!" A deliberate mix up of actions to body parts that tickled my funny bone and stuck with me. Words that to this day, some 20+ odd years later, I recall at every single serious and important martial arts event... and quite a few non-martial arts related events. Words that I have, on more than one occasion, been compelled to share with the younger generations.

Shihan Vince has been a shining role model for us. Patriotic citizen, The best Martial Artist, The best teacher and mentor, loving son, happy always, fighter to the end. My daughters have known and loved him since they were 5 years old. Although we will miss his maxims and laughter, his legacy will live within us always.

I will truly miss Shihan Holck - he was a superlative martial artist and a true gentleman. His dedication to his martial art & to his family & his dojo was so incredible. We have truly lost one of the giants of our 'ohana.

Chief /Shihan has left a lasting impression on so many people. For myself it was an honor to work with him at the 162nd and he knew how to push our children to do their best at the Dojo. He will always be part of the 162nd Services Flight Family and in my family's heart as a mentor and friend.

Chief Master Sergeant Holck was a great mentor and a great supervisor to me and to the whole 162nd services flight. He was an exemplary leader in the service of the 162nd Air National Guard. He believed in duty, honor and country. He also taught us to recognize and respect good family values and to take care of our loved ones. He was also my friend and a great human being. Thanks for everything Chief! You will be sorely missed.

In 1973 I met Vince in the TPD Academy Class and we became immediate friends. One could not ask for a better friend and partner that you were to me Vince. After I retired in 94, we lost contact when I moved to the White Mountains. Upon my return our paths crossed again until I went to work for Patagonia Marshall's Office and the NPD. I retired again joined Raytheon Security Forces and had to do monthly shoots at the Marksman where I found you employed. You saw me walk in, came around the corner and we hugged and shook hands. Your smile and your friendliness I will forever cherish my friend. I will miss you. God Bless you Vinson and I pray that the Good Lord offers peace to your family and grants you everlasting peace. RIP.
