Wendel Witkay Obituary

WITKAY, Wendel Adam, passed away on January 5, 2008 in Walnut Creek, CA at the age of 90. He was born in Richmond Heights, Missouri on August 26, 1917. He lived in Des Plaines, Ilinois for 44 years until moving to Tucson, in 1998. As his health failed he relocated to Walnut Creek, California to be closer to family. Wendel served in the US Army from 1941 to 1946 in the armored infantry and was discharged with the rank of major. After the War, Wendel earned a BS degree in Business Administration from the Denver University. He worked for Montgomery Ward & Co. from 1946 to 1956. He joined Alexander Proudfoot Company in Chicago in 1956 as a management consultant and retired from the company in 1978. Following his retirement, Wendel was active in volunteer activities with Grace St. Paul's Episcopal Church, United Way and AARP. He married Lucile (Lu) Schreiber in 1943 and together they raised four sons. Wendel loved skiing, hiking and camping. He was an award winning photographer. Wendel and Lu traveled extensively and shared their adventures in many travelogs. He is survived by sons Philip Witkay of San Francisco and Paul Witkay of Alamo, CA; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and his sister Edna (Mic) Sutherland of Ferguson, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his wife in 2001 and sons Wendel James Witkay and Robert S. Witkay. A Memorial Service is planned for January 19, 2008 at Grace St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 2331 East Adams Street, Tucson. Contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Northern California and Northern Nevada, 1060 La Avenida St., Mountain View, CA 94043.
