Wilfred Bischoff

Wilfred Bischoff passed away Monday, September 8, 2008, in Tucson, AZ. Wilfred known as Wil served in the US Army in both the US and Germany and was an Interpreter, Explosive Removal Specialist, Paratrooper and Sergeant. As a Geology graduate student at WVU he worked for the United States Geological Survey (USGS) and received the W.A. Tarr Award award from Sigma Gamma Epsilon for meritorious work in Earth sciences and a perfect Graduate Academic Record. In addition, he was a member of the National Earth Science Honorary Society and Sigma Xi, the National Scientific Honor Society. His career as a Petroleum Geologist involved oil exploration with Standard Oil Production in Houston, Texas as Geological Manager in the Frontier and International Division, Standard Alaska Production in Anchorage, Alaska as Field Integration and Geology Manager, BP Exploration (Alaska) in Exploration Special Projects, BP Alaska as Regional Exploration Manager, Sohio Petroleum Company as Chief Geologist, Sohio Company International as Exploration Manager and also as Vice President for Sohio Qatar Petroleum Company. In retirement in Tucson he was active in the Men's Lunch Group, Book group and Camera Group. He was President of his local Homeowner's Association and volunteered at the local Veterans Hospital. In addition, he gave talks to professional organizations and participated in community affairs. Wilfred Bischoff is survived by his wife, Janice Bischoff of 43 years; his son, Kurt Bischoff of Glendale, Arizona and his beloved German Shepherd. There are numerous other relatives on both the East and West coasts. The Wilfred E. Bischoff family names are engraved on the Eisenhower Monument in downtown Anchorage, Alaska along with the founding fathers in the development of the state of Alaska. A Memorial Service with Military Honors will be held at ADAIR FUNERAL HOME, 1050 N. Dodge Blvd., just south of Speedway on Saturday, September 20, 2008 at 10:00 A.M. Interment will take place at the dedicated Veterans wall at East Lawn Cemetery on Grant Road at a later date.
