I still cannot believe he has passed away. He was my favorite teacher and the only one I cared to remember. I would go to craycroft every night once in awhile to visit with him. Once I graduated, I was headed into the Army, I told my mother I needed to go and say good bye to him. He meet us at his classroom door, took one look at my mother and said you are not as scary as I remember. We all laughed. I loved this man. He is missed. God speed sir until we meet again. Cristy

Today is favorite teachers day. I was thinking about the teachers who impacted me the most. Mr Maynard came to mind. I was with him in 4th and 6th grade at Craycroft Elementary .Remembering his positive presents, humor ,patients and honest interaction with his students. He was a great influence .

Deo, this is Carol Smith and I want to say how very sorry I am for you.Maynard was one in a million and could make everyone laugh. There were so many jokes he played on his friends and always brought a smile to everyone's face. Teaching was not a job to him as he loved all the kids and he loved animals just as much so I will make a donation to ASPCA once a month in Bill's memory. I will never forget what an inspiration Maynard was to me and the students he touched and look forward to seeing him again some day.I pray the best for you. Always, Carol Smith

Deo and Family, I am so sorry for your loss. Mr. Maynard was my 6th and 8th grade math teacher. Those were some tough years for every adult who had to deal with me, just ask Mr. Rodriguez. Mr. Maynard never got mad at me and always made me feel respected. I became a middle school teacher a little over a decade later and I tried my best to treat every student with respect and plenty of humor and love just like him or at least as close as I could get. Thank you for being an amazing, patient, funny man.

I was truly saddened by the news of Bill's passing. He was one of the first people to welcome me to the Sunnyside family, when I started teaching Language Arts at Sierra Middle School in 1995. He was a fantastic educator, a special man and more than anything a great friend who will be sorely missed. My thoughts and heart felt prayers go out to his family and loved ones. Play for the angels Bill!

Bill, we've been friends a long time. Didn't get to see you as often as I used to, but I will never forget how kind and big hearted you were to me and everyone you met. So many good memories and good times. There will never be anyone like you, Little Bill. I never had a brother, but if I did I hope he would be someone like you. Love you. You'll live on in the thousand memories I have of you and Deo.

I was a student of Mr. Maynard at Craycroft in 1979. It is hard to think that he is gone now. So full of life as a teacher and a mentor. Thoughts and prayers go out to his family. A kind soul who loved his students. Hard to believe.

This truly breaks my heart. Every time I hear 'Don't Worry, Be Happy' or 'Red Wine', I think of Mr. Maynard. He was by FAR one of my favorite teachers. I talk about him ALL of these years later. He left such a big impact on me. He was a beautiful soul. He filled his students with not only knowledge, but joy. You couldn't sit in his class and not be happy. He was someone you could confide in and knew he would help if you needed it. I have thought about him often. I am so sorry to hear of his passing. My heart, thoughts and prayers are with those grieving for him. God Bless you, Mr. Maynard. Than you for touching and enriching my life.

When I heard of Mr Maynard's passing my thoughts immediately went to my 7th grade year at Sunnyside Middle School (Sierra Middle School now) and having this wonderful, funny and very kind man teach me math.
You never knew what other life lessons he would share with you . Two things stood out for me one funny and one that I thought at the time was genius. First putting vasaline in your hair for 50's day is not a good idea, it will take a week to wash out. Haha. The second was why bother to make your bed when you're just going to sleep in it that night. That one didn't fly when I tried to tell my mom that. Haha
I along with many of my classmates were very lucky and privileged to have had him as our teacher. He really cared for each and every one of us. He will be missed by so many.

Rest in peace Bill. Haven't seen seen you since graduation but I remember what a great football player you were and a great guy to all who knew you. By the eloquent obituary you continued to be a super friend to one and all. You will sadly be missed at the reunion. Gloria Zamorano

Mr. Maynard was my 6th grade teacher. I remember him as a great teacher. He treated all his students with respect. He had a soft spot for kids that needed a little more attention than the rest. I remember him giving advice followed by "You can take that to the bank." You will be missed Mr. Maynard.

He was my 6th grade teachers. The only teacher I talk about still to this day. He taught me more than an education. He taught me how to respect and love learning. Even after I left craycroft elementary, I still went back and visited him. After I graduated high school, I made a point to go and tell him I made it. He gave me the biggest hug. And it made me proud that knowing he was proud of me. I know I didn't know you in later years but I am going to miss you. Fly high newest angel. God speed. RIP. You will be truly missed.

When I was in 7th grade in the early 90s I used to try and get into his classroom during lunch period just to hang out with him. He wasn't even my teacher. I wasn't the only kid who did this, there were a bunch of us. I think he introduced me to the greatness of potato chips in a sandwich and I remember he liked to eat the pith off of his orange peels haha. He was well loved and we all gravitated to him.

My heart breaks as I recently met Bill and instantly felt loved & like I had known him for years! Bill joined a group of us for dinner @ Becky & Jim's and then Chris & I visited the Maynard home. Thanks to Chris Brown, I met a man who I can tell right away how much he adored his wife Deo (unfortunately did not meet her during that visit but got to speak to her on the phone... so next time I'm in AZ, I would love to meet you Deo). Beautiful home, full of love no matter where you went. Bill, you touched my heart and will remain there until we meet again! Sending prayers, love & {{{Hugs}}} to all of you.

Bill was an integral part of my growing up childhood. Every Sunday afternoon, our family went to his home, the adults chatted while we kids gathered in bedrooms to entertain each other. My brother, Ron, Bill and I would dig through the huge pile of comic books and read until the meals were served. We also spent many summer days doing the same things.
Bill really was such a fun person to be around, though we lost contact after high school, I'll always consider him a true friend. He will be missed.
