Sadie S. Sweeney

SWEENEY, Mrs. Sadie S., of Tullahoma passed this life on Thursday, Jan. 26, 2017 at the Life Care Center of Tullahoma at the age of 88. Born in Franklin County, Sadie Sanders Sweeney spent the majority of her 88 years in Tullahoma, Tennessee. She attended the Center Grove School through eighth grade and after completing high school worked as a legal secretary in Nashville. She met her husband of 62 years, Leslie Thomas Sweeney, of Tullahoma, on a blind date while working at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers where she was issued a Secret Security Clearance. Mrs. Sweeney was a servant to her family and upon her marriage manifested her skill as an expert homemaker, yet she was always at her husband's side as helpmate in all his business endeavors. Her love was for her family which included two children, Keith and Sandra. As an only child, she was a devoted daughter who never tired of honoring her parents. With the gift of hospitality she welcomed everyone into her home where they were offered a bite to eat. She was magical at producing a multi-dished meal on a moment's notice. Mrs. Sweeney took great joy in adorning her home and gifting others with her creative talent - from the paintings hung on the walls, to lace-edged pillowcases; from curtains draping the windows to hand-stitched quilts covering the beds; and everything in between. She was fearless in attacking any project. Her passion for sewing and stitching meant if a needle wasn't in her fingers it was close at hand. She was a masterful seamstress, determined with her intricate cross-stitch, and won a blue ribbon for a crocheted tablecloth. Besides the spiritual inheritance she passed on to her children, she spent many hours researching family history creating a genealogical legacy. Mrs. Sweeney is preceded in death by her parents, Clyde H. Sanders and Annie Hunt Sanders; and husband, Leslie Thomas Sweeney. She is missed and loved by son Keith (Elaine) Sweeney; daughter Sandra Sweeney Bemis (Rick); and grandchildren Christopher Sweeney, Adam Sweeney and Slater Bemis. Visitation for Mrs. Sweeney will be held on Monday, Jan. 30 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Kilgore Funeral Home. Funeral Services will take place Tuesday, Jan. 31 at 1 p.m. in the Kilgore Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Philip Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery in Tullahoma. Kilgore Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
