Anne Nunnelee Obituary

Anne Apperson Nunnelee

Anne Apperson Nunnelee, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on April 13, 2023, at the age of 85. She was born on September 25, 1937, in Ft. Smith, Arkansas, to Ida Talbot Apperson and Harvey Apperson.

Anne's family moved to San Francisco when she was a young child during WWII. They returned to Ft. Smith several years later, but her eyes were forever opened to how big the world was. Throughout her young life, she dreamed about traveling near and far sparked by the many books she read about exciting adventures. Anne attended the University of Tulsa, was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma, and earned a BA in social work in 1959. Following graduation, she worked for TWA as a stewardess before returning to Tulsa to teach school.

On June 11, 1960, Anne married Eddie Lee Nunnelee, the love of her life, and they were happily married for 61 years. Soon after being married, they moved to Wichita with Eddie's job at IBM, making many lifelong friends during their time there. Together they had four children, all born in Wichita. Eddie's IBM career took them to Chicago, Kalamazoo and finally Tulsa, where they lived and became deeply engaged in the community.

Anne began her real estate career in 1978 and found her calling. She was an associate/broker with McGraw Realty for 32 years and loved helping her clients find the home of their dreams. She was involved with many philanthropic organizations, including the Junior League, Meals on Wheels and Helping Hands. Anne had a passion for travel and visited places around the world, including India, Russia, Egypt, Australia, New Zealand and Vietnam. She and Eddie also traveled to Tanzania in support of MainSprings. She loved learning about other cultures, interacting with the local people, and serving others.

Between family, real estate, and travel, she was truly fulfilled. Anne was often described by friends as fun, spunky, independent, strong-willed, sharp-witted, a force of nature, loving, kind, generous, and big-hearted. She was a true friend to so many.

Anne loved to ski and never shied away from an adventure. She set an example of what a strong, independent woman looked like long before it was common. She was a woman full of faith, and full of questions. She was curious, intelligent, determined, fun-loving and spontaneous. She was generous in spirit, time, and treasure. She was courageous and lived life on her own terms.

Anne is survived by her children, Michael Nunnelee (Sabrina) of Tulsa, Susan Creidenberg (Jan) of Kansas City, Christopher Nunnelee of Stuart, Florida, and Matthew Nunnelee (Amy) of Kansas City. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren.

She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Her indomitable spirit, big heart, and generosity will always be remembered.

A service of remembrance to celebrate Anne's life will be held in the coming weeks. More information will be available when plans are finalized by the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Meals On Wheels of Metro Tulsa.

She was my amazing friend, I think my best friend. She raised a wonderful family and she will always be in our hearts. Too big a personality and soul to disappear. Love to her four...I knew you very young. Heartfelt sympathy to you all.

I am so sorry for your loss. She was a super lady I met through the Veltmans when we all skied in Crested Butte.

I first met Anne when she sold a beautiful home to my daughter. Then, many a football games at Holland Hall watching grandchildren playing and one cheerleader at those games. Devastating when she lost her husband and extremely devastating now that she is gone. My heart is shattered for all the family

I first met Anne when she sold my daughter a beautiful home. Then saw her often at Holland Hall during football games as our grand children participated in sports. Always so sweet and kind and cute as can be. Extremely sad to hear of her passing.

Both of your parents were incredibly kind, but the smiles on their faces while just walking past their house, (just a wave sometimes), would brighten anyone´s day. I can´t imagine the sadness that you are all going through, but I hope you know how much joy they gave to everyone that encountered them in their lives!

Anne was a friend to all. She would visit me at Reasors and was always spunky, upbeat and asking after others. That´s how kind and cute she was. A spitfire. My love to the family. Actually my family through marriage. Blessings to Michael and Susan.
