Carolyn Virginia Simmons was born on November 27, 1928 in Miami, Oklahoma. She graduated from Tulsa Central High School in 1946. She then attended Oklahoma A & M (OSU) and graduated in 1950 with a Bachelor of Arts in English. She worked as an English teacher and as a secretary at Dowell Chemical Co. where she met and married George Walton Woodard. George passed away on November 24, 2011. How to describe Carolyn; fierce intellect, voracious reader, anglophile, beautiful soprano, music lover, piano player, talented painter, master gardener, bird watcher, star gazer, tennis player, Presbyterian church elder, loving wife, mother, best friend, and the bravest of hearts. She is survived by her son, James Woodard, and by her daughter, Johanna Woodard. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Good Shepherd Hospice.
