Charles Cox Obituary

Charles Edward Cox

Charles Edward Cox know as Chuck, was received into Heaven on September 1, 2021. Chuck was born September 12, 1949, in Muskogee Oklahoma, to Gid and Kathryn Cox. He was the last living of four brothers, Gary, Mike, and Thomas. He talked about them until the very end and said that he was ready to go home to see them. He proudly served in the 82nd Airborne. He graduated from Oklahoma State University in 1980. With a Master's degree in Health and Leisure Science. He was a proud OSU grad, and a member of the Alumni group known as the KOK-DADI's, never missing a reunion in 40 years. Go Pokes!

Chuck retired from the United States Postal Service as a clerk, were he met his lovely wife, Danna Cupps and shared 30 years of marriage. One of their greatest blessings was their son, Thomas Gid Cox of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Coach Chuck was one of Tom's coaches in so many sports. Chuck dreamed that his child would go to OSU as well. He did, and he was so proud. Chuck knew it was important to raise his son in faith. He attended Memorial Drive United Methodist Church as a child, where he played basketball, which started his love for sports.

He was a member of Skelly Drive Baptist Church, where one of his happiest memories was watching his son's baptism. He loved taking him on church camping trips with the family gangs, boat rides, fishing and food. He was all about that! He was an avid fisherman and believed every child should have a chance to catch a fish. And is fishing with his Father now! Chuck was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in his later years.

He is survived by his Uncle Jim and wife, Pam Ritchey; his mother-in-law, Geneva Cupps; his brother-in-law, Ray and wife, Sunday; brother-in-law, Jeremy (Sam) and wife, Laura; brother-in-law, Jason, all of Tulsa, OK; sister-in-law, Nahama Joy and fiancé Carl Phillips of Kansas City, MO; sister-in-law, Marla Cox of The Colony, TX; seven nephews; five nieces.

There will be a graveside service on Saturday, September 11th, at 10:00 am., 5111 S. Memorial Drive, Tulsa, OK. Please wear orange, if you can. If you would like to give a tribute gift in his honor to Alzheimer's Association instead of flowers he would have loved that! Moore's Southlawn 918-663-2233. Share memories at

We were deeply saddened to learn of Chucks passing and that we will be unable to attend his memorial. We were fortunate to share in dorm life with him at OSU (1971-1975) and our beloved Bennett Hall. He inspired many of us with his zest for fun, infectious energy and creating West Bennett "Chucks Chicks" intramural flag football team. We grew proud of our independent team and the spirit that has lingered all these years later. Many would ask what sorority we were in only to discover our close knit team consisted of West Bennett dormitory residents supported by our East Bennett male cheerleaders!! Chuck, along with his brother Gary, enabled us to feel such an important part of OSU recreational sports. We wore our yellow Chucks Chicks T-shirts with pride knowing we would be supported and encouraged to do our best while having as much fun as possible. Because of Chucks inspirational spirit and natural coaching ability, we remember well the importance of team cooperation. Playing on this team helped prepare us for the lasting memories that accompany that value of sportsmanship. Because of his leadership and that he was just a "little older" than most of us, we respected and honored his place within our college life. It is our hope that his family, friends and all that knew and loved this remarkable man will find some comfort in recalling many wonderful memories of him throughout this most difficult time. With love,
Bob and Carolyn Cahoon Watts. Go Cowboys!!!

Condolences to Dana and all the family. The picture carries his weight: he was always the most real person in the room. He is missed immensely by anyone who knew him. I so appreciate having known him and working with him. God bless his family.
