Charles Stebbins Obituary
Charles Bruce Stebbins, a Tulsa native was born October 2, 1929 and passed on April 7, 2021.
Charlie was passionate about flying. As a young man working for Sinclair, he would wake up and ask his mom, if she could see Turkey Mountain. If she could, he would fly to work in Tulsa from Stebbins Airport.
Charlie, a daredevil loved piloting gliders, small aircraft, sailing, jet skiing, anything that moved. Charlie travelled worldwide, but especially loved the Caribbean. He participated in four Tiger cruises with his son in the U.S. Navy. Charlie always loved a good party and was an accomplished swing dancer, even joining Tip Toppers.
He attended OBU on a track scholarship and graduated from TU with a Mathematics degree. He served in the 45th Division National Guard at Fort Sill.
Joining American Airlines with his A&P license, he retired after 41 years where operations research was his favorite assignment. Charlie also trained all the pilots and mechanics on operation and maintenance of AA's first Boeing 767. He was active in an investment club and his church.
He is survived by, his loving wife of 41 years, Betty. He is also survived by his beloved blended family: sons, Jeff, Ralph, William; daughter, Cathie; stepchildren, Jean, Linda, and Sam; 10 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and his sister, Frankie Jean Lantz.
The family will receive friends Monday, April 12, 5-7 p.m. at the Ninde Brookside Funeral Home, 3841 S. Peoria, Tulsa, OK 74105. Funeral service Tuesday, April 13, 1:00 p.m., Christ United Methodist Church, 3515 S. Harvard. Interment to follow at 2:30 p.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery.
