Elson Hargrove Obituary
Feb 24, 1935 - Aug 17, 2025
Born in Tulsa to Elson Payne Hargrove Sr. and Elizabeth Claudia (McDowell) Hargrove, "Junior" was 1954 salutatorian of Blair High School. He earned his bachelor's degree from Oklahoma City University in 1958. Elson married Joyce Louise Agan on August 30, 1958, and began seminary at SMU's Perkins School of Theology the next week, completing his divinity degree in 1961.
Church appointments: Valliant, McAlester Wesley, Coalgate, Carnegie, Tulsa Harrison Memorial & Lake, Pawnee & Skedee, Wewoka & Cromwell, Frederick, Tahlequah, then administrator at Oklahoma Methodist Manor. He also served on many conference boards and as dean of youth church camps for two decades. He retired from the United Methodist Church in 1999.
Since 1984, he was active in every possible activity at Hope UMC Tulsa including Volunteers in Mission (VIM) trips.
Boy Scouts activities included chaplain at two National Scout Jamborees. The Black Beaver Council presented him the Silver Beaver Award in 1978.
Elson enjoyed camping with family in national parks, and spent most summers during retirement in South Fork, Colorado, as well as a motorhome trip to Alaska.
He is survived by wife Joyce, son Steven of Tulsa, daughter Belinda of Colleyville, TX, and sister Kathryn of Converse, TX.

Elson lived his love doing for others. "Well done, good and faithful servant."

Enjoyed many happy visits with Joyce and him in my office, still have a Nativity set that he made for my front yard, that won several awards in our HOA Christmas decorations competition. Memorable and honourable church and family man.
