Henry Brocksmith Obituary

BROCKSMITH -- Henry Alfred, retired Tulsa Physician, died Thursday, August 25, 2005 at the age of 95. Dr. Brocksmith was born April 16, 1910, at Freelandville, IN to Edward Frederick and Elizabeth Kruse Brocksmith. He graduated from the Indiana University School of Medicine in 1936. While attending Indiana University, Dr. Brocksmith was named to the 1932 All American Track and Field Team and was awarded the Big 10 Athletic Conference Medal for Scholarship and Athletics. He was a member of the Indiana University Athletic Hall of Fame. Dr. Brocksmith established his medical practice in Tulsa, in 1940 and retired in 1986. He served 46 months in the United States Army Medical Corps earning the rank of Major, upon his discharge in 1946. Dr. Brocksmith was an active member of the American Medical Association and the Tulsa County Medical Association. He is preceded in death by: his wife, Betty Brocksmith; his brother, Carl; and half sister, Esther, both of Freelandville. Surviving members of the immediate family include Edward and Sandra, Tahlequah, OK, Richard and Lea, Tulsa, Katherine Brocksmith and Doug Markham, Tulsa and Jonathon and Pam, Tulsa; Martha and Dr. James Brennan, Cleveland, OH; 4 grandsons, Edward and Nicole, Henry, J.T., Tulsa and Richard and Eleven, Seattle, WA; great-grandchildren, Chloe and Ethan Brocksmith, Tulsa; nieces, Janet Steimel, Washington, IN, Carla Brocksmith, Indianapolis, IN and Nancy Wilson, Henderson, KY. They are daughters of Mrs. Carl Brocksmith of Freelandville. Friends may wish to contribute to the John 3:16 Mission or the American Heart Association. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, August 29, 2005 at the Memorial Park Cemetery Chapel. Stanleys, 743-6271.
