I grew up next door to Howard on Myrtle Lane. Loved him and his family.

I grew up next door to his parents and he played with us neighborhood kids and taught us how to play football. Both girls and boys alike. He was sweet and kind too us kids and we all loved him and his family. My mom and Bessie were friends and his uncle Jim lived near us also so I knew his cousins also.

What a beautiful tribute to a life well lived. I will never forget in 1972, when Howard mailed me one of his football photos autographed, "to my cousin, Mary Jo Twilley" so I could prove to my junior high football coach that we were related (I was a cheerleader in Ft Leavenworth). My father was Col. LeRoy Gayle Twilley and his father was Haddox LeRoy Twilley. He had once explained how we were related... I´m from the line of Twilley's from Alabama but apparently some of them moved to Texas or Oklahoma many years ago and that´s the line where Howard is from. So, I don´t know how far removed we are, but we decided we were cousins. We followed his successful football career over the years, but were most impressed with his commitment to his faith and family, using football as a platform for sharing his testimony. We join you in grieving the loss of such a legendary man, but we also rejoice with you knowing whose he was and where he is now.
