James Bullock Obituary

James Bullock

Sep 2, 1952 - Jul 12, 2025

James "Jim" Bullock died unexpectedly following a brief battle with cancer on July 12, 2025 at the age of 72.

Jim was born in Athens, Georgia in 1952 and grew up in Tulsa, OK. His father Louis was an executive with Warren Petroleum and his mother Theresa was a homemaker. Jim was the fourth of nine children.

Jim graduated from Bishop Kelley High School in 1970. He obtained his undergraduate degree from Notre Dame in 1974 and his Law Degree from the University of Tulsa in 1982 while simultaneously working for Agrico, a subsidiary of The Williams Companies. Jim proved to be a highly skilled business litigator and went into private practice, first in Tulsa and later in Dallas.

Following that, he became Senior Vice President of Worldwide Litigation for Halliburton, based in Houston. He retired in 2008 and returned to Tulsa in 2017, enjoying the fact that, unlike Houston, Tulsa has four seasons.

Jim was married for forty-two years to his wife Ann. They met on a blind lunch date and never looked back. He was a loving, generous, and supportive husband and a wonderful second father to his stepdaughter Laura, with whom he shared a great love of music, cooking, a taste for the absurdly outrageous writings of Tom Robbins and the movie Harold and Maude.

Jim possessed a keen intellect, a dry wit, and an open and curious mind. He stayed on top of current affairs (political and otherwise) and enjoyed engaging his many friends in informed, intelligent, thoughtful conversations on far-reaching subjects. His wide-ranging knowledge also made him a valued player and a formidable opponent at the fiercely competitive Bullock Game night, which regularly featured Trivial Pursuit.

Jim was a skilled raconteur with a wealth of interesting and hilarious tales from his rich and varied life experiences. He loved deep sea fishing, Notre Dame football, cooking, eating, cold weather, movies and travel. To casual acquaintances he could be enigmatic, masking his more tender demeanor which only revealed itself in time. He was a charitable person, a generous tipper, a steadfast liberal, and a person of enormous compassion and integrity, always.

Jim is survived by his wife Ann, stepdaughter Laura Pellegrino, and his siblings, Mary Bullock, Anne Sublett, Louis Bullock (Patricia), George Bullock (Jill), Jenny Miller (Scott), Gerald Bullock, Jane Day (Lantz), and Lesli Bullock wife of deceased beloved brother Joe as well as numerous nieces, nephews and many good friends, allof whom mourn his untimely passing and will miss him.

To the Bullock family, my dad worked with Jim's dad Louis and we grew up with these kids. Jim was the same age of my little brother and we were all great friends. I am so sorry to hear of Jim's passing, may he rest in peace and may God be with this family.

Much love,
Marilyn Willey-Knox
