James Millaway Obituary

James "Sherman Oaks" Millaway passed away on December 23, 2023. Jim is survived by his family: children; Jack and James; grandchildren; Jimmy, Jackson, Carter, and Nolan; his beloved daughters-in-law Jill and Ellye, and too many friends to count. He sends his love to Deb here as well!

James is well-known throughout Tulsa for his alternate persona as Sherman Oaks from The Uncanny Film Festival & Camp Meeting, starring the incredible Dr. Mazeppa Pompazoidi! and for his long-serving role for 47 years as the chaplain of the Tulsa State Fair.

Sherm lived a magical life having been gifted at birth the ability to breathe at night and see underwater. He lived for 82 years largely avoiding the inconveniences of family and god forbid work. He was willing to put in the work to make people laugh and he did that better than anyone we have known.

There will be no formal service, religious or otherwise. There will be a celebration of his life and the laughs he created with more details to come. In lieu of flowers Sherm would ask that you direct to donations to the Animal Aid Thriftstore or Moreland Sherrod.

This is the first I have heard of his passing. I never met the man but my brothers and sisters watched him every Saturday night for as long as I can remember. My condolences to his family and friends.

Actually, Jim was the best friend I ever had. I knew him for well over 50 years and not more than two weeks ever passed without talking on the phone and driving each other into hysterics. Due to distance, we didn't see each other often, but every meeting was like we'd just seen each other the week before. I will sorely miss him. Goodbye "Cuz'n Jim" - rest in peace. My best to Jack and Jimmy, I share some of the sadness you are now feeling.
