Joe Boyd Obituary

BOYD -- Mr. Joe E., Sr., in his 73rd season, answered his Master's Call Home on Saturday, February 10, 2007 in Tulsa, OK. He was born December 24, 1933 to Josephine Sanders and Willie Brown in Cushing, OK. He attended Booker T. Washington High School there in Cushing, culminating with his graduation in 1956. He completed welding school at the Oklahoma City Vo-Tech. He was employed as a Welder for Schulumberger Oilfield Companies. Joe joined the staff at Safeway and became the first African-American Union Steward in Cushing, for the Independent United Foods Commercial Workers. Later, he was employed as a Foreman at Industrial Services of Cushing. Joe was a loyal Mason of the Silver Star Lodge #190, and a member of First Baptist Church North. He is survived by: his wife, Flora Ellen; son, Robbie Boyd, Tulsa; daughters, Vicki Sheets, Tulsa, Toni Boyd-Bradford, Oklahoma City; grandchildren, LaTasha Sheets, Nashville, TN, Keonta Bradford, Oklahoma City, Jermaine Boyd, Tulsa; 1 brother, Eddie Boyd, Oklahoma City; sisters, Cleo Lane, Stillwater and Nell Reed-Carter, Sapulpa. Service for Mr. Boyd will be held 1 p.m., Saturday, February 17, 2007 at Cushing High School Auditorium, under the direction of Keith D. Biglow Funeral Directors, Inc. of Tulsa, OK.
