Joseph Elliott Obituary

Joseph Elliott

Joseph Douglas Elliott, 73, of Tulsa, OK, left this life peacefully on January 8, 2022, at the Jack C. Montgomery VA Medical Center in Muskogee, OK. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory, 505 W. Grand Ave, Ponca City, OK, 74601.

Joe was born on February 9, 1948, in Dallas, TX, to Felix Ansel and Stella Louise (Ford) Elliott. Joe's travels through life were a coat of many colors. After graduating from Tulsa Edison High School, Joe and a buddy were picked up by a carnival while hitchhiking to Chicago. They visited many small towns throughout the South in the summer of 1966. They "escaped" the carnival in September and traveled to Brooklyn, New York, where they worked at ABC Records. Shortly after, Joe joined the US Air Force.

He sang in a Rock and Roll Band and studied Art at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, OK, where he met & married Tommy Lang of Burbank, OK. They had two beautiful children, Jessica, and Jacob. He worked as a brick mason and a draftsman. He served as the Superintendent of Wastewater Treatment for the City of Glenpool, OK, and later as the Director of Public Works for the City of Sapulpa, OK. Finally, after living on a sailboat in Galveston, TX, while training to become a nurse, he returned to Tulsa and worked in home health care as his last career. From Mason to Nurse, he excelled in all his work. He retired for a time to Eureka Springs, AR where he wrote and performed music and continued to pursue art and photography.

Through it all, Joe was as he seemed - honest, quiet, reclusive, well-read, and famously economical in speech. He will be sorely missed by all his family and friends.

Joe is survived by son, Jake Elliott; grandchildren, Grant, Olivia, Quinton, Boone, Maggie, and Chloe; brother, Bill Elliott and sister, Barbara Schlehuber. Joe was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Jessica.

Owing to the continued threat of Covid, a private celebration of Joe's life is planned for friends and family later in the Spring of this year.
