M.C. Leist

Marvin (M.C.) Leist of Morris, Oklahoma was born October 17, 1942 in Liberal, Kansas to Marvin and Myra(Cone) Leist. M.C.'s father, Marvin, served during World War II in the United States Navy so M.C.'s early years were shared with his mother and grandmother, Daisy Raymond Cone. He passed away at Muscogee Creek Nation Medical Center in Okmulgee, Oklahoma on Sunday, February 13, 2022.

M.C. graduated from Lookeba-Sickles High School.  He later graduated from Panhandle State University in Guymon, Oklahoma with a BA in Social Studies. As an educator and coach, he taught at Mounds, Liberty-Morris, and Boynton High Schools. 

M.C. was an avid hunter, outdoorsman, wildlife conservationist, cattleman, and loved Appaloosa horses.

M.C. was elected to the Oklahoma State House of Representatives in 1986 and remained undefeated through nine terms until being term limited out in 2006. At which time he then served as Deputy of Oklahoma Department of Labor. He was recently recognized for his accomplishments at the "Living Legends Banquet" in Okmulgee. Accomplishments of which he was particularly proud of included legislation on water quality, healthcare, agriculture, business development infrastructure. He authored over 500 bills during his legislative career. The majority of which were passed with strong bi-partisan and constituent support.

He was proud to have served the people of Okmulgee County and the State of Oklahoma.

M.C. Leist is survived by his wife, Nancy of the home in Morris, Oklahoma; sister, Barbara Freed and husband, Bob Freed of Okeene, Oklahoma; son, Brion and his wife, Vicki Leist of Pumpkin Center, Oklahoma; daughter, Donna and her husband, Doug Olinger of Miami, Oklahoma; daughter, Benita and her husband, Jim Casselman of Preston, Oklahoma; Eric and Lisa Tuck of Ft. Gibson, Oklahoma; Cynthia and Ron Steckline of Claremore, Oklahoma; Joanne and Joe Paul Perryman of Warner, Oklahoma; two nieces, Kim and husband Joe, Houk of Okeene, Oklahoma and Kristal and husband, Brian Randall of Fairview, Oklahoma.

M.C. And Nancy enjoyed their 17 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He leaves a host of friends, family, his dog Ash and a few Republicans to mourn his passing.

Honorary pallbearers are James Casselman, Michael Casselman, Daniel Martin, Briton Leist, Mason Martin, Jake Perryman, Trent Steckline, Derrick and Connor Tuck.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his name to the building fund at Liberty Baptist Church or the charity of your choice.

I have just learned of Mr. Leist's passing. To say that I am devastated is a great understatement.. He was my teacher, my inspiration as well as one of the reasons I became a teacher. I hope I made him proud
