Marjorie Swofford Obituary

Marjorie Swofford

Marjorie Anne (Wolfe) Swofford, age 86, left this world to be in the nearer presence of God on Sunday, May 2, 2021, due to stage-4 bone cancer due to metastatic breast cancer. She was born in Wichita, KS, on December 1, 1934, the only child of William Ashby Wolfe and Dorothy (Nuckolls) Wolfe. She graduated from Wichita East High School in 1952 and Wichita University in 1956 with a BS in sociology. She was active in the Delta Omega Sorority, now Alpha Chi Omega.

She and Robert Glenn Swofford were married on April 8, 1961, at First Presbyterian Church, Wichita. They raised three sons: Mark William, Paul Glenn, and John Robert.

Marjorie served on the executive staff of Magic Empire Council of Girl Scouts (now Girl Scouts of Eastern Oklahoma) for 22 years, retiring in 1994. She was awarded Girl Scouts USA's highest adult honor, the Thanks Badge, in 1997.

An active volunteer, Marjorie served as an officer, director, and/or leader in many organizations: the League of Women Voters of Metropolitan Tulsa, LWV of Oklahoma, Tulsa Metropolitan Ministry, Tulsa Habitat for Humanity, Eastern Oklahoma Presbytery, Green Country Walk to Emmaus, Girl Scouts USA, CROP Hunger Walk, Church Women United, and Presbyterian Women. She was an ordained elder in the Presbyterian Church (USA).

Places she lived include Wichita, KS; Hays, KS; Wallingford, PA; Tulsa, OK; and Sapulpa, OK.

Survivors include her husband, Bob Swofford; their sons and their wives: Mark and Hsin-chun (Kuo), Taipei, Taiwan; Paul and Sandra (Garcia), Sugar Land, TX; John and Cynthia (Babb), Tulsa, OK; four grandchildren: Claudia, Racquel, Benjamin, and Evelyn; her sister-in-law, Virginia (Swofford) Agnew Hall, Tulsa; exchange student, Cyril Lai, Hong Kong; and numerous cousins across the country.

A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, Tulsa, on Saturday, May 8, at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, a donation to an organization close to her heart would be most appreciated.
