Markham Johnson, Jr.

From his days working in the Kennedy Building with Markham P. Johnson and Associates, through his years as Vice President of Willis Inspace in Washington D.C., to his retirement years in Tulsa, wherever he went Markham Johnson knew someone. Stopping with him at a tiny donut shop on the way to some event, his children were amazed to watch him head for the only other person in the room, hand out, big grin on his face, calling out the name of an old friend he hadn't seen in fifty years. Markham Johnson loved being with others, whether he saw you once a week or once in a blue moon. He was a long time Boy Scout leader, he helped run the successful U.S. Senate campaign for his old law school buddy Fred Harris, and he worked out every day for most of his life. Markham was born on March 8, 1929 in Mobile, Alabama and died on December 29 in Tulsa, at the age of 93. He is survived by his partner, Billie Jean Cluff, his children Markham (Dawn) Johnson III, Kristen Armstrong (her partner Steve Buttles), and Scott Johnson, grandchildren Laurel (Brandon Rule) Johnson, Gabriel Johnson, Nicholas Johnson, Brooks Eady, and Chase Armstrong, great grandchildren August, Sylvia, and Sabine Rule, and niece Kathy Roy Clanton. A memorial service will be held at College Hill Presbyterian Church, on Saturday, January 7, at 1:00 pm. He'd have loved to have seen you there.
