Rainer DuPont Obituary
Born in Baden Baden, Germany, to Robert Otto DuPont and Brigitte Alice Albert DuPont.
Rainer's father moved the family to Stamford, CT, in the mid-fifties to establish a US Branch of the Swiss Company, Greiner Electronics, in the New York area.
Rainer attended New York University and continued his studies at the University of Connecticut, where he was a varsity wrestler.
He enlisted in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was stationed in Orleans, France.
He served as the interpreter and personal aide to General Joseph Haiser, pledging his own life for the General's protection. They travelled to Germany on a frequent basis prior to the relocation of the French Headquarters to Germany. He had a great affection for the military and enjoyed his time in France, where he met his Irish wife, Myriam.
Rainer and Myriam became U.S. citizens in 1979. The children witnessed the naturalization Ceremony presided over by Chief Judge H. Dale.
Rainer had a great passion for sailing and treasured his weekends at Lake Gibson. He and son, Robert, his crew, competed in many regattas and even brought home a few trophies.
Rainer had a great love of classical music, opera, and most especially Chamber Music. His exposure to KammerMusik (chamber music) began at age 6 in postwar Germany. Every Friday evening the family went to Tante Anna's house where they had a potluck supper and his father, aunt, and friends played their instruments.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Cathedral on Saturday November 15 at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be in Dublin, Ireland.

This fund is used for Christmas Gifts for the compassionate staff of this facility.
Rainer was predeceased by his sister, Karin Elizabeth Lowden, survived by wife, Myriam DuPont nee Kelly, Robert John DuPont of Los Angeles, Brian Christopher DuPont of Chicago, Renee Brigitte Patrick of Tampa. Nephew Keith Lowden of South Carolina, Niece Wendy McPeak of Rhode Island and Ute Bovet of Bex, Switzerland.
Grandchildren, Kieran, Miles and Claire DuPont and Matthew Patrick.
