Richard Corbin Slagle, M.D., M.M.M. was born on October 15, 1939 in Centralia, Illinois and passed away at his home on January 16, 2025. Dr. Slagle first received a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Oklahoma. He worked briefly as a control systems engineer on the Project Apollo. Starting in 1962, he served 2 years in the U.S. Army as an Instructor for the Artillery and Missile School at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. He then received the Army Commendation Medal for meritorious service. It was during this time that he was married to Jean Ann Braun. In 1969 he graduated Alpha Omega Alpha from medical school at the University of Oklahoma. He completed a residency in Internal Medicine and a fellowship in Cardiology at Duke University. In 1973 he entered medical practice in Tulsa, Oklahoma with Cardiology of Tulsa at Saint Francis Hospital where he worked for 43 years. In addition to caring for patients, he held many administrative positions including serving as Chief of Staff, Medical Director and Chief Medical Officer for Saint Francis Hospital. After being elected Governor for Oklahoma to the American College of Cardiology, he established the Oklahoma Chapter. In 1998, he earned a master's degree in medical management from Tulane University. For 16 years he served on the faculty of Horty/Springer Seminars for Medical Staff Leaders. His interest included improving the quality of healthcare and physician leadership.

He enjoyed working in his gardens and greenhouse, with special interest in roses and orchids. He loved his German Shephard Dogs, and a remarkable cat named Beau. He is survived by his wife Jean Ann, son Mark and sister Barbara Deese. He will be deeply missed but joyfully remembered and his legacy lives on through the countless lives he touched, both personally and professionally. The family appreciates your thoughts and prayers during this time. Private family services will be held. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in his memory to the American Heart Association.

First met at Duke Cardiology. Then traveled to Cardiology meetings in Snowmass & Hawaii.
Favorite times were in Ha, for good meetings and special times with Jean Anne playing tennis.
Friends for many yrs tho we were in Tx, and then SC! Surely will be missed! Hugs, Bill & Ann

I count my time working solely for Dr Slagle at COT a true joy. He teased me in saying his patients came for me, but I knew better.
One early memory was needing to retrieve information from a facility in Pryor. Being from the west coast and needing to look up Prior OK just came up blank. `You´re not from Oklahoma, are you, Cindy?´ he asked with a big smile and chuckle. Yes, I was embarrassed, but he was such a kind, friendly doctor-we could laugh together at my ignorance, and move on.
My husband, his patient, was also an engineer, and it seemed a majority of his patients were as well. I teased many of them with a tho´t I would start a support group for partners for all these engineers - many of them asking me to let them know when I did. He made my work a joy indeed.
His personal interest in each patient was so evident in his countenance that overflowed in my assisting him.
I am saddened in hearing of his passing and understand the void he has left. Yet, I know his big heart touched many outside his family nucleus as well as within. All his patients loved and respected him and were truly thankful for his knowledge and care of them.
I am truly sorry for your loss

He will be greatly missed - but he has left a sweet memory in my solo experience in the medical field.
Thank you, to his family and friends, for sharing him with me, a lowly MA
