Ruth Baker Obituary

BAKER - Ruth Ann. After a very short battle with cancer, Ruth Ann Lafferty Baker celebrated her homecoming victory with her Lord on October 18, 2008, the same day as her Oklahoma State Cowboys celebrated a homecoming victory on the football field. Ruth Ann was born in Foyil, Oklahoma on March 20, 1927 to Lloyd and Mamie Lafferty. She moved to Stillwater, OK in 1942. During her time in Stillwater, she graduated from Stillwater High School in 1945, graduated from Oklahoma A & M in 1949, was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority and met Johnny Baker. Ruth Ann and Johnny were married on June 13, 1947 at the First United Methodist Church of Stillwater. Throughout Johnny's career they lived in 9 different states and raised four remarkable children. Ruth Ann's love of sports, reading, dogs, bird watching, gardening, church, family and country never left her without words. She was a great conversationalist and we will always remember her love for the OSU Cowboys, Houston Astros and Republican Party! She is survived by: her husband, Johnny; her four children (and spouses); Trent Baker (Terri) of Broken Arrow, Lisa Bates (Wayne) of Broken Arrow, Todd Baker (Rosanne) of Edmond and Lloyd Baker (Mary Ann) of Maple Valley, Washington; step-grandchildren Staci Kern and Jamie Denney of Oklahoma City; five grandchildren; Christopher Baker, Leanne Baker, Matthew McLarty, Greg McLarty and Scott McLarty, three great grandchildren; Austin Denny, Maximus Denney and Juliette McLarty, brother Lloyd Lafferty (Peggy) of Arlington, TX, sister Dorothy Friend (Jonathan) of Stillwater and sister, Jean O'Halloran (Merkle) of Cordell. A Memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 23, 2008 at 4 p.m., at the First United Methodist Church of Broken Arrow. In lieu of flowers donations can be sent in memory of Ruth Ann to the First United Methodist Church of Broken Arrow Building Fund. Ruth Ann Baker

It was always great fun for all the cousins to gather at Uncle Johnnies & Aunt Ruth Ann's house. Lively conversation and plenty of young cousin antics were the rule of the day. I will miss her lively conversations which could be punctuated with an exact opinion. The Lafferty clan dinners were something special given the culinary talents passed on from Ruth Ann's mother (my Grandmother--Mamie Lafferty). An important part of the extended Lafferty family is now gone but will be remembered. I will miss Ruth Ann.---Her Nephew--Kent Patrick O'Halloran

My prayers are with the family and even though I may not have known her personally...she will be my sister eternally.
