PS, we didn't call her Sara Lee in college, but just Lee. Or (at first) Miss Newell... all of the teachers called us Miss, and to us they were Mr, Miss, Mrs (but never "Professor". Ms came into usage around the time we were there. The first moon landing happened just after we left college.

To Sarah Lee's family and friends, many of us who knew Sarah Lee during her four years in college remember her fondly, and are grieved to learn she has died. I was in many classes with her, mostly in biology, and was impressed by her work ethic, her determination to reach her goals, but also her kindness and gentle demeanor, somewhat shy smile, and soft (at least in my presence) friendly laughter. Also the fact that she was comfortable driving at faster speeds than were legal in my own home state, and that we had opposite views on what kinds of highways offered the most pleasant driving. I liked rolling hills, gently curving road and forested countryside; she told me she favored straight stretches of uninterrupted highways through wide-open fields where every little rise in elevation allowed you to see far out into the distance. I feel privileged to have known her, and remember our interactions with gratitude.

My deepest condolences on the loss of Sara whom I well remember from Vassar. May her memory be eternal.
