Scott C. Lewis
Feb 25, 1935 - Dec 7, 2025
Scott Carney Lewis passed into the eternal care of God on Sunday, December 7, 2025. Born to Nancy C. and Harold G. Lewis in Tulsa on February 25, 1935, he was the second of two boys, the younger to his older brother Jim. Scott was raised in Tulsa, attending Elliot Elementary, Horace Mann Jr. High and Central High School, graduating in 1953. Upon graduation, he matriculated to Cornell University where he earned a BS in Mechanical Engineering. While at Cornell, Scott went on a blind date with his good friend's sister, Mary Cornell Blair. The date, having gone quite well, turned into a courtship. Soon, the courtship was interrupted by Scott's graduation. Upon graduation he was commissioned as a 2nd Lt. in the U.S. Army Reserves, so his first stop was Summer Camp at Ft. Sill, OK to begin his artillery officer training. Thereafter he moved to Cincinnati to begin work at Procter & Gamble. The courtship continued from afar until Scott and Mary decided to marry, which occurred in Mary's hometown of Detroit on September 5, 1959. Shortly after marrying, Scott commenced his required term of Active Duty in the Army at Ft. Sill, OK, immediately after which he was honorably discharged at the rank of Captain. He then returned to Ithaca to commence his graduate studies, earning an MS in Industrial Engineering in the summer of 1961.
While still in Ithaca, they welcomed their first child, daughter Kathryn Blair. Shortly thereafter, upon Scott earning his degree, they moved to Tulsa to begin Scott's career working for Braden Steel Corporation alongside his brother Jim. A couple of years later they welcomed their second child, son Harold Alexander (Hal). Scott and Mary thereafter settled into a wonderful home life, a mélange of work, family, church, time and travel with cherished friends, weekends at the lake house, and many, many nights shared around the dinner table.
At the age of 58, in 1993, he entered a new undertaking with his son, Hal. Together they purchased a small metal fabrication company, ACME Manufacturing Corp., bringing daughter, Blair, into the business a few years later. Applying his many skills and giant brain power, Scott was instrumental in building ACME into a strong and prosperous business.
Scott lost Mary in 2020. After some years of grief, however, in 2022, he opened a new chapter, taking as his bride Mrs. Helen Santee, widow of Jack. They embarked on a new journey together, happily and lovingly sharing their lives and integrating into their new families. Scott was lovingly welcomed into Helen's family, and he was able in a short time to create cherished memories with her children, daughter Catherine Hughes (Eric), son John Santee (Karen), and son Stephen Santee (Amy), as well as Helen's beloved grandchildren.
Scott was, at heart, a professor, and his intelligence and wit were easily perceived by all. He could carry on a conversation on virtually any subject and bring to it a deep well of knowledge and command of facts. He was an avid hobbyist, spending many hours designing and building remote-controlled model airplanes, using his own designs and self-made parts, some of which were intricately machined. He enjoyed playing bridge with close friends and weekly with his cherished bridge friends at Southern Hills. These activities occupied him until the end.
Scott was a kind and gracious man. Whether parent, boss, or friend, he never failed with a kind word or a helping hand. Many a family road trip was interrupted by a stop on the side of the road to help a stranded motorist.
Scott was preceded in death by his father, his mother, his first wife, Mary, and his newborn daughter, Emily Cornell Lewis. Scott is survived by his wife, Helen and her family, daughter Blair Williams (Robert), son Hal (Casie), grandchildren Kate Montgomery (Marcus), Jenny Shmidt (Garrett), Kiefner Lewis (Brenda), and Alex Lewis, and great grandchildren Beatrice Montgomery, Riley Blair Schmidt, and Marco Lewis.
The family will be holding a private graveside service. Should you wish, memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church or the Food Bank of Northeast Oklahoma.
