Stephanie Husen Obituary

Stephanie Husen

Stephanie Jolene Husen was born on Friday, April 19, 1974, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Greg and Joyce (Gleason) Husen. She passed from this life on Wednesday, June 1, 2022, in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 48.

Stephanie was the second of three children born to Greg and Joyce Husen. She graduated from Ponca City High School in 1992. From there she received her degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Oklahoma. She was involved in multiple activities at the University of Oklahoma including the Chi Omega sorority. After an automobile accident, she made the decision to attend medical school to further her passion for medicine. Stephanie received her D.O. degree from Oklahoma State University, College of Medicine in 2004.

After medical school, she completed a residency in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at Greenville Memorial Hospital in South Carolina. She went on to complete a fellowship in Sports Medicine at Steadman Hawkins Clinic of the Carolinas. She provided medical care at Integris Medical Center, Jim Thorpe Rehabilitation Center, and Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City before moving to Tulsa. She worked as a sports medicine physician at Saint Francis Warren Clinic for the past seven years. She had a passion for healing and took pride in the care she gave her patients. This passion for caring extended beyond her patients.

"Stephie" was an amazing, giving person as a daughter, sister, sister-in-law, aunt and friend. She was also a proud "mom" to her two rescue dogs Boomer and Sooner, whom she often said "rescued her". Stephanie was adored by her family and especially her niece and four nephews. She never missed a family or friend's birthday and attended as many niece and nephew events as possible. She faced adversity with courage, humor, and positivity. She had a gift and a smile for everyone on every occasion and was always there for advice and encouragement.

Stephanie was fortunate to find her soulmate in Rob Rodgers of Tulsa. She poured her heart and soul into his children, Bennett and Sydney, and truly loved them like they were hers.

Left to cherish her memory are parents: Greg and Joyce Husen of Broken Arrow

Brother, Jeffrey Husen and his wife Beth, of Tulsa

Brother, A.C. Husen and his wife Annie of Oklahoma City

Niece, Andi Husen

Nephews, Nate Husen, Gib Husen, Michael Husen, and Jacob Husen

Soulmate: Rob Rodgers, and his two children: Bennett Rodgers and Sydney Rodgers

And numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins

Those who preceded her in death were her grandparents: Alfred and Georgiann Husen and Charles and Gertrude Gleason; and her beloved dogs Boomer and Sooner.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made in Stephanie's name to either Pets Helping People - Muddy Paws Pet Grooming, where she had her own dogs cared for; or Oklahoma Westie Rescue Foundation.

Dear Husen family. I didn't know your beloved Stephanie but I am a member of the medical community (retired RN 49 years) and Catholic community. I watched her beautiful mass. I can't begin to know what you all are going through. It was so beautiful that the young people participated in her Mass. As I saw Dad carry her ashes in how strong you must be sir. We never think a tragedy of this sort will happen. Stephanie's service to humanity cut so short. As I've followed these heartbreaking situations I've wondered if I would be strong in faith to get through it. I pray for our God, our Saviour Jesus Christ will comfort you and your faith will get all of you through it. Stephanie through all I have read must have been such a wonderful, smart, loving, kind and generous human plus a physician. God Bless. I am praying for all of you.

I didn't know Dr Husen but reading about her I wished I had known her. I worked for Warren Orthopedics for many years, and it still feels like family, and she was a part of this family. RIP Dr. Husen

I had the great privilege of working with Dr. Husen at the University of Central Oklahoma Mercy Clinic. She was a delight to work with and always gave exemplary patient care. I had great admiration for her as a physician, but beyond that she was a friend to staff. She was kind and generous and I have some great memories of her. I am praying that her family will know what a shining light she was to those who knew her. I am praying for strength for you all. She will be greatly missed.

I wasn't a friend nor family. She was my doctor. She was so exceptionally warm and kind, and that's something I don't often get from doctors. She was exceptionally patient, kind, and warm. Dr. Husen was a shining light in my life and helped me get my life back, and I think she really understood the impact doctors have on people a lot more than most do. Hearing the news was beyond tragic, and I never realized just how much a good doctor could mean to someone like that.

My mom and I were so struck that we went out together to buy her a bouquet and a candle. The scent was banana nut bread- it was strong, but soft. It gently wafted all around me and was as light and airy as she. I give my deepest, most loving condolences to her friends, her children, her family. Above all else, I will remember her as one of the most kindhearted and gentle people I've ever met.

My heart is extremely heavy after hearing about Dr. Stephanie Husen's tragic death in the Tulsa shooting yesterday. I cut her hair for many years before she moved to Tulsa. She was a talented, and caring physician that always brought a smile to your face. She loved her family , friends , patients and especially her dogs fiercely. I'm praying for her family and friends. Fly with the angels!
