Dad's memorial service December 4, 2020. Small, private & pandemic-safe. Thank you to David, Lewis & Lisa for coming & sharing your memories. Thoughts, love & prayers to his beloved wife, Patsy. Songs: My Pa (Barbra Streisand) - this came out when I was 10 or 11; it still expresses my deep love & respect perfectly. Goin' Home (Sissel) - years ago Dad said he wanted this played for his service; I think it was at Uncle Wendy's funeral. Hey, Jude (Beatles) - Dad didn't like the Beatles when Vicki & I were playing them non-stop. About 20 years ago he rediscovered them & especially liked Hey, Jude. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rF3N9Wx7m1Q https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZ_2Xbvb0rQ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mQER0A0ej0M

On a trip to Santa Fe, I stopped in Tulsa for a visit. Uncle VL opened the door and greeted me with a grin and a joke. Laughing together set the tone for a wonderful visit. Will always remember his smiles.

Dad was the best. Always a source of good advice and support. And endless unwavering love. He was a very patient teacher. We laughed at the same things. He could be very silly and fun. I still think of him every time I watch Rocky and Bullwinkle.

A few photos from my last visit with Grandpa. I loved cribbage with him, his glasses of milk, his quiet, affirming presence.

Uncle V.L. was truly a man of "the Greatest Generation". Memories of family reunions in Garden City, endless games of pitch, and your WW II baseball cap. Uncle V.L., you will be missed by all the Bethels in Nebraska. Prayers for your family at this time.

Everyone loved & trusted him. Kids & dogs followed him around because he always had time for them. Everyone went to him for advice, which he gave in the form of suggestions, which were always thoughtful & helpful. He was the most honorable person I've ever known. I am truly blessed to have had him as my dad.
