Charles Mathews Obituary

Charles Mathews
Jun. 7, 1977 -
Jan. 12, 2021
Charles Wayne Mathews II, 43, died peacefully at his home in Alabaster on January 12, hours after his beloved Crimson Tide won the national championship.
Charles worked in the meat market at the Tuscaloosa Bruno's from 1998 to 2007.
He married his soulmate, Dalila Fondren; daughter Ava was born in 2012. In 2013 Charles was diagnosed with metastatic appendix cancer. He fought it for almost 8 years, driven by his love for Dalila and Ava. His will to live seemed bottomless.
In addition to his wife and daughter, he is survived by his parents, Wayne and Kathy Mathews; sister, Jennifer (Tom) Land; sisters-in-law Colleen (Chuck) Gracey, Ashley (Greg) Seaman, and Mary (Adam) Dunny; brother-in-law Brad (Heather) Fondren; extended family; and countless friends.
Due to Covid-19, no service is currently planned; a celebration of Charles's life will be scheduled at a later date. Donations may be made in his name to the Appendix Cancer Research Foundation (https://acpmp.org/help-us/donate).

What a remarkable man Charlie was. Always such a positive attitude no matter how much pain he was in. Of course he was doing this for his family. They were his life. What a good and full life he lived. His absence will be hard on everyone.

Wayne and Kathy, I am truly so sorry for your loss. I never met Charles, but if he was anything like his parents, he was a GREAT MAN. I love both of you, and I will keep you in my prayers sweet friends.
