Cody Hayes Obituary
He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, A.J. Crapps and Hardison L. Hayes.
Survivors include his parents, Myra and Jr. Hayes; his sister, Tanya Lathum (Terry); his brothers, Brian Hayes (Traci) and Marc Hayes (Kris); special nieces and nephews, Caleb Hoggle, Cayley Hoggle, Hunter Hayes, Sage Hayes, Savannah Hayes, and Bryson Lathum; his grandparents, Doris and Jerry George and Mary Hayes; and a special friend, Kimberly Brackner.
Cody graduated from Brookwood High in 2005. He was a member of Brookwood High Varsity Baseball for three years. He attended Shelton State. He was a loving son and brother and a friend to everyone he met. Cody loved hunting, fishing, and outdoor sports.
Pallbearers will be Tyler Foster, Blake Abston, Greg Colburn, Bruce Mullins, Jayson Crapps, and Cameron Thrasher.
Honorary pallbearers are Anthony Ellis, Brookwood High graduating class of 2005, Donaldson Feed in Brookwood, RadiciSpandex, Jim Walter Resources, Brookwood High School, friends of the Brookwood Community, Bluff Creek Hunting Club, Beaver Pond Hunting Club, and Black Warrior Methane.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Christian Ministries Center c/o Pleasant Grove Association, P.O. Box 97, Brookwood, AL 35444.

I did not know Cody, but I graduated from Brookwood High in 2003 and I lost my 17 year old brother-in-law this past December in a wreck on Hagler Road. I know there is nothing that can be said to make this time any easier for you, but I am so very sorry for your loss! Your family and friends will my in my prayers!

I found this poem Billy Joe had written several years ago and it made me think of Cody. i I KNEW IT ALL : All I neededto know, I knew I learned at an early age I knew how to catch a fish and turn to the funny page I knew how to whittle a stick Throw horseshoes and ride a bike I knew how to make a whistle And what kind of vegetables I like I knew how to dig for worms Catch fireflies in a jar I knew when Dad got his belt I'd pushed him a little too far I knew knew how to stand on one foot And talk to the pretty girls Tho I wondered why I wanted to do that They were nothing but satin and curls I knew Jesus was the man to copy That the Bible was a Holy Book I knew if I talked in church Mama gave me a dirty look I knew how to pull my own weight Stand up to the bully next door I once tried to chew tobacco But threw up all over the floor I knew how to walk in the sunshine Stay out of the pouring rain If ever a boy knew it all It was me on a gravy train When things got steamy and hot I knew how to find me a shade Some people say life is tough Not me, man I had it made Cody did just that He MADE so many lives better just being CODY. I will always remember Cody as a little boy who welcomed my niece, Summer as the only girl on a boys baseball team. He was truly a gift from God and he touched many lives in his short sojourn on this earth. Mr. and Mrs. hayes and family I am so devastated to hear of your loss of Cody. I will always remember sitting in the tree stand and cutting up with him on the backside. He was always a joy to be around. I have thought all day about watching him grow up and know that there are alot of people that don't understand. God loaned him to us for a short time but had other plans for him but know that God knew this was going to happen and it was in his will. One day we will all see his smiling face again and know that he is in a better place waiting for all of us to join him. lets make sure we make it there to see him again.
