Adele Galvin Sommer

Sommer, Adele Galvin - passed away on December 27, 2002 in Curacavi, Chile where she had spent the last 11months visiting her son. For years she said what kept her going were her grandchildren, of whom she had 12. She had a wonderful curiosity for life. 'If you learn something new each day, it's worth living,' she often told people. Even at the end of her life she remained a confidante to many. People were drawn to her because she listened and didn't pass judgement. Her bright blue eyes sparkled until the end. Mrs. Sommer was the 1992 Irish Person of the Year of the Irish American Society of Dallas. She was a board member of the Woman's Club at St. Rita's Church of Dallas. Earlier in life she had employed her eye for numbers as an Advisory Board Member for Senior Citizens at Forestwood Bank of Dallas and a Vice President of the T. W. Sommer Co. of St. Paul, Minnesota a wood products company that she ran with her husband. Adele maintained a lively interest in current events and politics. She was proud to be a life long Democrat. Adele Sommer was born in West St. Paul, Minnesota on September 2, 1907, the first child of Margaret and Dennis Galvin. She married Tjodolv W. Sommer on April 24, 1929 and they were happily united for 43 years. In 1972 they moved to Dallas where Tjodolv died the following April. Mrs. T.W. Sommer is survived by her 2 children Terence Galvin Sommer and Sharon Sommer Jaeb of Dallas; her son-in-Iaw Tom Jaeb; 12 grandchildren, Jennifer Jaeb Swedenburg, of Plano, Texas, Christopher Jaeb of Santa Barbara, California, Bradley Jaeb, of El Granada, California, Erin Jaeb of Oakland, California, Jill Jaeb Archer, Dallas, Texas, Winston Jaeb of San Jose, California, Adele Sommer of Breckenridge, Colorado, Mark Sommer of Chicago, Illinois, Lance Sommer of Seattle, Washington, Wade Sommer of Dallas, Texas, Bret Sommer of Hudson, Wisconsin, Terence Sommer Jr. of Germany; and 19 great-grandchildren. She was loved deeply. She will be missed by all. Visitation will be at the Jaeb home, 7048 Elmridge Drive, Dallas Friday, January 17th beginning 4PM. The funeral will be at ALL SAINTS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5231 Meadow Creek, Dallas 11AM Saturday, January 18th.
