Christopher PARSONS Obituary

Age 48, of Minneapolis, passed away on June 15 at Hennepin County Medical Center sur-rounded by family and loved ones. Chris was raised in Minneapolis, the city he loved. Since 2000, he served as a St. Paul firefighter, and was promoted to Captain in 2007. Chris served as president of the Minnesota Professional Fire Fighters and an officer of Local 21, the local union representing St. Paul. Chris was a trailblazer, testifying before the Minnesota legislature and U.S. Congress, and ensuring that Minnesota led the way on issues of firefighter safety. Chris successfully fought for laws that banned cancer-causing chemical retardants and provided financial assistance to firefighters afflicted by at-work injuries, as well as many other laws that protected first responders. Chris had a strong physical presence – a large stature, deep voice, and beaming smile. And he loved life. He was outside at every opportunity – especially for skiing, hiking and running. He enjoyed playing music on his guitar and ukulele. Chris had a unique authenticity that enhanced his connection with friends, colleagues, and anyone who crossed his path. Chris was a loving father, partner, son, brother and friend. He will be greatly missed by his daughters Kaya and Annika, his partner Johanna, his parents Johnny and Kathy, his brother John (Kevin) and John's wife Samantha, and many, many others. Service to be held Wednesday, June 21, 2023 at 1pm at Nicollet Island Pavilion, 40 Power St., Minneapolis, MN 55401, with visitation from 10am to 1pm. Washburn-McReavy.com Davies Chapel 612-377-2203

To the Parsons Family,
Please accept my deepest condolences on the loss of Chris. He was my captain for my remaining years as a driver on the St. Paul Fire Department at Station 22, Ladder 22. During this time I learned that Chris was a dedicated firefighter who took his captain responsibilities seriously. That made my job as a driver much easier. But most importantly, I learned that Chris liked people, cared about them, and that he was a good guy. I will miss him.
Rest assured in your faith that you will see him again. Your family will be in my prayers.

Regretfully,
Dave Hafner
