David PREUSS Obituary

Age 56 of Mendota Heights Died unexpectedly of natural causes on May 30th, 2020. Preceded in death by father Douglas Preuss, who tragically died 7 weeks before David was born, beloved father Richard Summers, grandfather Conrad (Papa) Kober and grandmother Adreen Kober. Survived by loving mother Constance Summers, sisters Leslie (Jim) Morris, Adrianne (Greg) Geisler, nieces and nephews JP (Courtney), Alexandra Perpich, Patrick (Kate), Michael, Elizabeth and Jamie Morris, great nephew Mac Perpich and great niece Rose Morris. David was "Uncle D" to JP and Alex; he helped raise them, and they adored him. David would light up a room with his big blue eyes and his larger than life personality and smile. Nobody could tell a better story or loved the Rolling Stones more than David. David found humor in the fact that he attended Visitation for grade school. David excelled in any sport he played at St. Thomas Academy. David had his choice to play either Division 1 football or hockey — many scholarships were offered — but it was an easy decision for David. He chose his true love: to play hockey for the Gophers. At age 17, David was drafted in the 2nd round of the NHL draft by the Mn North Stars. Sadly, a freak injury in the U of M locker room ended his hockey career. David will be sadly missed by all who loved him, and by all 4-legged friends, as he was a true animal lover. Our Gentle Giant "Preusser" is now in heaven, but oh my…the memories he has left us for the rest of our lives. Due to Covid, a private family burial is our wish. Any memorials please send in David's name to the Animal Humane Society.

David,
I miss you more everyday, you were a wonderful brother. You always had my back!! I keep laughing remembering when I first graduated from college and I had an apt in Edina. A neighbor notified me that I had a Peeping Tom. When you heard you called and said that you were coming with a 6-pack and your baseball bat and you would wait on my deck all night. It was February.

In 1996 when I moved back to St Paul newly divorced with young JP and Alex you were amazing. You were always there for us, I didn't have to ask. You had Papa's kind, gigantic heart.

You watched a lot of youth hockey games and sat thru endless Spice Girl concerts in my Livingroom. Always with that big grin of yours.

I sure wish that we could have seen The Stones on May 16th. I had been looking forward to that for months. We would have had a blast.

Thank you for taking such great care of our mom when dad died. Don't worry Dave, I got her now. The Preuss will never be the same.

I Love You Dave. Rest in Peace.

when Preusser first showed up as a freshman at STA I was a senior goalie, and never never felt such a heavy slapshot. It the icebox of West St. Paul arena five days a week at practice it got old quickly. Ill never forget that Bobby Clarke grin after scolding him. I knew right then he was going to be a handful; but I didnt know we would always be friends. R.I.P.

My deepest condolences to all of Dave's entire family.

Dave was the only other boy I'm my class at visitation convent, I have great memories as he was trying to teach me how to skate, I'd never been on skates before and he was already a superstar.
We reunited at St Thomas academy, and I was blessed to catch up with him several times after high school.
He truly was one of a kind, may he rest in peace.

Very sad to hear of David's passing. I was a couple years behind him at St. Thomas Academy, and we all looked up to David (in-part because he towered over everybody!). Our prayers are with David and his family today.

Ma Preuss (Connie)
You probably don't remember me but maybe the name (Petey). There are a bunch of us guys that hung out together because of our friendship, like interests, needing a place to hang our hat and or just true friendship. Gentlemen with names of John Battis, Rick Berken, Tom Palkowski, Andy Boemer, Greg Olson, and may others from the mid 80;s thru the mid 90s We all Loved your son David or Preube as he would be known around us, send out our deepest sympathy and condolences to the Preuss family. Oh I and the rest of the boys fore mentioned have many of fine times and stories that we could share about the Gentle Giant. I so remember the great big smile you would see always on the face of David, calling him Bam Bam cause he would throw the rock halfway down the floor at Midway bowl And smash the pins, to heading downtown after the Twins won the 1987 and 91 World Series to gathering around the houses of Portland, St. Clair and Coachman Road in Eagan so many fun times we all had. I am sure between Batty and I we will have a celebration for David at one of the Pit Stops around town and raise a glass and toast our friend and tell stories about the good times we all had with our friend David. Life was cut short for David and what I wouldnt give to see that smile just one more time.
Thanks Preusser for all the smiles and good times we had through the years may you Rest In Peace and we all look forward to seeing you when our time comes, Speaking for the Fore mentioned fellas I am leaving many names behind, God Bless and Rest In Peace Preusser.
