Elizabeth MURRAY Obituary

Devoted Wife, Loving Mother, and Faithful Friend Died Monday, March 2nd, 2015 at Marian of St Paul Senior Living Residence. Betty was born on September 6th, 1924, in St. Cloud, Minnesota, one of eight children (seven of which were girls). She met Don Murray working on the school paper for St. Cloud Tech and made an honest man out of him upon his graduation from the US Naval Academy in 1946. As a young girl, Betty loved summers at the lake in Avon, MN, and became convinced that most of the world's problems could be worked out in a few hours back and forth on a swing. Don and the seven children that came along (funny how Don was like another kid most of the time), became the center of her universe. She gave everything to them, helping them build happy, healthy families of their own. When grandchildren came along, she loved nothing more than being hostess to noisy family of all generations. Betty loved life and spent all of it surrounded by loving family and friends. She worked hard to teach her kids not to track mud across a nice clean floor, not to speak with their mouths full, to say "please" & "thank you", and to leave a space cleaner than they found it. Betty was the heart and soul of her family, she maintained a home where all were welcomed without judgment, and she was the center of a community of people who knew they were loved. We'll miss you, Oma! Funeral Mass Friday 10:00 AM at The Chapel of St. Mary at Marian Center, 200 Earl Street, St. Paul, with luncheon following the service. Private interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. A very special thank you to all caregivers at Marion Center. Memorials preferred to the donor's choice.

We last saw Betty in 2008 at Mille Lacs. Since we live in Europe we did not see her often, but her warmth and love of people was immediately and always apparent. A wonderful lady!

I'm sure our mother met Betty at the Pearly Gates to welcome her there. She and Don were such good friends with my parents for many years. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all the family at this time. Betty will be missed.
