Genevieve A. McCARR

Age 90, of Minneapolis Passed away peacefully in her sleep on Palm Sunday, March 28, 2021. Preceded in death by parents, Lionel and Genevieve Schweizer. Survived by her husband of 66 years, Retired District Court Judge Henry (Harry) McCarr, son Thomas (Sheila) McCarr, daughter Molly Schuneman, 6 grand children: Gregory (Miho), Jonathon and Benjamin Schuneman and Katherine, Elizabeth and Tommy McCarr and great grandson, Hugo Schuneman. She is also survived by her special family in India: Henry (Reena) their children, Honey (David), Hancy and their grand daughter Hannah. Genevieve was born on October 27, 1930 and raised in St. Paul where she attended Nativity grade school, Derham Hall High School and the College of St. Catherine's where she received her BS in Nursing. She then received her Masters Degree in Education from the University of Minnesota. She started her working career as an assistant professor of nursing at the College of St. Catherine's. She took time off to raise her children and then resumed her career by teaching nursing at Lutheran Deaconess School of Nursing and finally, served as a Rehabilitation Coordinator at Fairview St. Mary's Hospital. Genevieve was a loving and dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. She had a strong Catholic faith with a special devotion to Mary. Genevieve was an accomplished pianist and organist known for playing at weddings, funerals and Masses as well as entertaining friends and family. She was also known for her beautiful handwriting, singing in the funeral choir at Lumen Christi, spending winters in Venice, Florida, playing solitaire and for her wonderful holiday meals. Genevieve was a longtime member of the Town & Country Club where she was an active member of the Ladies 9 Hole group. Her last moments were spent with her husband, Harry, praying the rosary at her bedside. All who knew and loved her will fondly remember her singing, "You Are My Sunshine". Mass of Christian Burial at 10am on Holy Thursday, April 1, 2021 at Lumen Christi Catholic Church, 2055 Bohland Ave St. Paul, MN, 55116. Interment at Resurrection Cemetery in Mendota Heights. Because of current COVID restrictions, attendance at the funeral Mass will be limited. For those wishing to view the Mass, a livestreaming option will be available on the Lumen Christi website at www.lumenchristicc.org. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Our Lady of Peace Hospice Home in St. Paul, Lumen Christi Catholic Church or donor's choice.
