Jack Gilbertson Obituary

Gilbertson, Jack - William 'Gabby' Age 82 Died peacefully surrounded by family. Preceded in death by parents William and Charlotte; and daughter-in-law Linda 'Twig'. Survived by wife of 61 years, Loraine Mary; children June (Ken) Lang, Wayne, Brad (Sharon), Tim (Sue), Candace (Rich) Johnson; grandchildren James (Chrissy), Kim (J.D.), Jill (Tad), Kellie (Paul), Bradley, Erin, Christine, Erik, Jack, Angus and Madeline; great-grandchildren Lucas and Lindsey; sister Betty; nephews Chuck and Bill (Suzanne). Proudly served his country as Staff Sergeant of 45th Thunderbird Infantry Division in WWII. Awarded five medals including Medal of Honor and Purple Heart. Faithful Lutheran. Retired at age 55 from FHA- Director of Single Family Division. Worked another 20 years as an Independent Fee Appraiser and VA Review Appraiser. He volunteered as a Reading Mentor to Cherokee Heights Elementary students and gave talks to Battle Creek Middle School history students about WWII. He was a wonderful brother and friend. One of the guys. Beloved husband; dedicated grandfather; supportive, caring parent who encouraged his children to succeed in whatever path they chose. He was always there. His energy and zest for life was contagious. He was an avid reader, writer and enjoyed bird watching. He was a straightaway bowler and a baseball enthusiast- coach, player and fan. We love you Dad. You will live in our hearts and in our memories forever. Service 11AM Friday ST. STEPHEN'S LUTHERAN CHURCH, 575 Charleton St., West St. Paul. Interment Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Visitation at WILLWERSCHEID WEST-HEIGHTS CHAPEL, 235 Wentworth Ave W., West St. Paul 4-8PM Thursday, and at church 1/2 hour prior to service. Memorials preferred. 651- 457-7938.

I am very sorry to hear of Gabbys passing.The years I got to bowl with him where memorable to say the least. No one could throw a bowling banquet like he could.I still tell my friends about them and its almost 30 years later.
