Jae CHOO Obituary

Age 71 of Minneapolis Survived the Korean War and mental illness, but died June 1, 2013. Jae Chun was born (July 2, 1941) in Pyongyang, Korea before the Korean War divided his home country. His family fled civil conflict to Seoul, South Korea where he graduated from Kyung Bok High School (1960) and Choong Ang University (1966) after serving compulsory service in the Republic of Korea Army (1963-1964). Having grown up admiring American GIs, Jae emigrated to the United States (1972), and became a U.S. citizen (1975), when he joined the U.S. Army, serving at Fort Bragg, North Carolina (1975-1978). While serving in the Army he married his loving bride and had his only child. Shortly after Jae's honorable discharge, he and his family moved to the Twin Cities metro area, eventually settling in Brooklyn Park. Jae lived with paranoid delusional disorder most of his adult life, and supported his family operating his own Red Robin Laundry business in Edina (1981-85), while working more than 20 years at the Nabisco Cream of Wheat plant in Northeast Minneapolis (1979-2002). Jae enjoyed exploring his chosen country during regular road trips. He was deeply spiritual, reading and translating the bible daily, until macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy diminished his eyesight. He was also inspired by science and engineering, filling his home with textbooks, journals, and tools. Jae is survived by his devoted wife Aesoon, his son Sam (Molly), two granddaughters Sophia and Norah, and an elder sister Jai Kang, elder brother Jae In, and five younger sisters, Jae Juck, Jai Sun, Jae Guk, Jae Bon and their wonderful families. Visitation will begin at 9:00am Wednesday, June 5th at Roseville Memorial Chapel, 2245 N Hamline Ave in Roseville. Memorial Service will begin at 10:00am. Inurnment with full honors at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Bloomington at 12:15pm.
