James Bruce "Jim" ORPUT

Of St. Paul Passed away peacefully on September 2 at the age of 96. Jim was born in St. Paul on August 23, 1927 and was an alumni of Cretin High School and St. Thomas College. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp at the end of World War II, he was the loving husband of Dorothy Orput until her passing in 2006, and he was the dedicated father of their 8 children: Mary Linstroth, Patty McGough, Peter Orput (d 2022), Carol O'Connor, Maggie Felling, Thomas Orput, Kate Carter and Sheila Loop. Jim was king of the funny adage, and anyone who knew him can attest that there was no one better at coming up with a nickname on a dime. He was a loyal fan of the Twins and the Wild, and the amount of general knowledge he had about the world was never-ending. Jim will be toasted with a hefty pour of scotch by his family and close friends at a private memorial later this month. He was extremely grateful for the quality of care he received from the Veterans Administration, and his family requests that if you are so moved, you make a donation to the Minneapolis VA Medical Center in his honor.
