Jan KORMANN

1939 - 2017

Jeanette Luann Brielmaier Kormann (Jan), 77, of St. Paul, died peacefully at home on July 1, 2017, nearly two and a half years after being diagnosed with terminal lung cancer. Jan's purposeful, unendingly hopeful approach to her life and her illness inspired us, and her genuine warmth, enormous generosity of spirit, and irreverent humor enriched us. Born in Mankato, MN on Oct. 24, 1939 to R.B. and Nell Brielmaier, Jan attended Our Lady of Good Counsel and Mankato State University. She was married to Philip J. Kormann for 47 years until his death in 2015. In her work life, Jan provided compassionate service to people and communities in need: she was a social worker, a campus minister, and a church administrator. Predeceased by husband Phil and by brothers Don and Bill, Jan is survived by her most devoted friend and primary caregiver Janet Kinney of St. Paul; sister Mary (Fred) Tschirley of Green Valley, AZ; children David (Kendra) of Morristown, NJ, Mary (Bob) Messner of St. Paul, and Matthew (Heidi) of Marietta, GA; beloved grandchildren Mackenzie and Gabriel; and the many close friends and family members whose presence and support sustained her. Jan was exceptionally fortunate to receive treatment at the Cancer Care Center at Regions Hospital in St. Paul. In addition to expert, forward-thinking medical care, Cancer Center staff provided boundless comfort, encouragement, empathy, and friendship. In particular, we are profoundly grateful to Dr. Balkrishna Jahagirdar and his colleagues Cassy, Caitlyn, Anne, Kristi, Stephanie, Sally, and Carol. Very special thanks also to Dr. Paul Lafferty of Regions and to Jenny O'Malley of Integrated Home Health. Jan donated her body to the University of Minnesota's Anatomy Bequest Program. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Sept 2, 2017 at Ascension Catholic Church, 1723 Bryant Ave. N., Minneapolis, MN 55411.
