Jean BECKER

Age 90, of Stillwater, MN Prominent Nurse / Educator Jean Becker, 90, died July 28 at Croixdale in Bayport, MN. Mary Jean Thompson graduated from Stillwater High School in 1943, attended Mankato State and received her RN from St. Barnabas School of Nursing. She was a nursing leader who focused early on in specialty fields including obstetrics, cardiac care and intravenous therapy. She helped to establish infusion therapy practice guidelines and was a respected educator. Many knew her in Stillwater as the Lakeview Hospital PM shift supervisor or the night nurse at the Minnesota State Prison. A 4th generation member of Ascension Episcopal Church she supported many ministries including Kitchen Guild, the Vestry and Outreach. She was most proud to help support the development of the renowned Ascension Youth Choir. 'Grandma Jean' was known and loved by many families not only for the cookies but for her interest in their lives. Jean loved the outdoors, camping, canoeing, swimming, gardening and scouting. After retirement, she was a Wilder Forest Camp nurse which she often remarked was one of the jobs she loved most. Jean was kind, generous, brilliant, hardworking, independent, loving, productive, stylish, forgiving and dedicated to her family. Preceded in death by her long-time partner, Anthony Pascale; father, Donald Thompson; mother, Grace Underwood Thompson Westrom; stepfather, Fred Westrom; brother, Donald; sister, Margie Wellman; and infant grandson, John Richard Becker. Survived by her children: Jaime Becker (Roger Fuller), Jim, Joe (Robee), John, Janet Prust (Robin), Jeff (Lisa Mitchell); grandchildren: Jake, Jed (Tonya), Josh, David Lael Bush (Ann), Jeanna Ruppel, Lauren, Mackie Prust, Christy Prust, Holly Carson (Ben), Jeffery (Yvonn) and twelve great-grandchildren. Funeral Service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 6 at ASCENSION EPISCOPAL CHURCH, 214 N. 3rd St., Stillwater, MN. Visitation at 9 a.m. Interment at Fairview Cemetery in Stillwater.
