My dearest Katie,

You will be missed; but never replaced. Your commitment to your family, friends and community will always be remembered. You were my bridge, my strength and my comfort in need. What you brought to the community; young and old is truly remarkable. You are beautiful, passionate about your work and beliefs, successful and to some, the stone that moved mountains.

Chan and family, may you find the courage and strength to move forward in peace and confidence and in knowing that Katie was a life well-lived. She will be missed dearly. I look to see her again. But for now, the heavens are rejoicing because another beautiful angel has come home.

Love Margart (Mugs) Coleman and Family,

If tears could build a stairway,?
And memories a lane,?
I'd walk right up to Heaven?
And bring you home again.
Those we love don't go away,?
They walk beside us every day,?
Unseen, unheard, but always near,?
Still loved, still missed and very dear.

Goodbye Katie Dearest Lady. Tho close in age, you taught me much. I admired you so much and appreciate all you did for everyone. To Chan and family; I'll be thinking of you and wishing you peace and better days ahead soon. I think Katie wants us to remember happy times and smile often.

There are no words to say to describe Katie. I remember over 40 years ago when she ran for the council. I thought such a brave lady, I want to be like her. Yes almost 40 years later I did run and like her I was not elected. But now I saw I had her courage and that was enough for me.

Thank you Katie for being in St. Paul and there for me as a scared little Ohio teen-ger.

Dear Chan and Family,
My heart is broken today. Your mother and wife was truly my sister, my girlfriend, my leader, my inspiration; such a remarkable selfless person. And, Chan, you, too. Without you and your patience and humor at the right time with all of us much of the movement would never have succeeded. I met Katie during the Civil Rights Movement in 1965. She believed in me and her unconditional support made me stand up and speak, without a word. I sincerely will try to carry on her work, her patience, her love for the rest of us. She is a hard act to follow.
My grandmother used to say, “Beauty is as beauty does.” Katie is our epitome of real beauty. Her living will not be in vain. Love to you all and thank you for sharing Katie.
Sincerely, Jo Anne Favors and family

Katie's passing was announced at the Saint Paul Foundation's Facing Race Ambassador Award Celebration last Monday and it broke my heart to hear it.

Her energetic and tireless spirit will always be an inspiration to all of us, especially to those who work for social and economic justice in our communities.

Thank you for being a role model and an outspoken mentor for people impacted by racism and classism, Katie. Your shoes will be hard to fill.

Deepest condolences to Arthur and family.

Mrs. McWatt touched my life so much that the lessons, advice, and stories she shared has stayed with me even now at 35. Mrs. McWatt was one of my 1st mentors, she reiterated the things my parents instilled in me at home…I left home for school every morning, and there was Mrs. McWatt with the same advice and guidance as my parents. She encouraged me to enter the Minority Encouragement Program, take creative writing classes, take advantage of the Pre-ACT testing, and always encouraged me to further my education. She would say, “don’t stop”. She also spoke about and taught how important it was for a young African American women and men to get involved in their community. As Mrs. Davis once said, “always invest in people, not things”, because things are not tangible and people are. Look at the many lives Mrs. McWatt has touched, I thank God she invested in me and I hope one day I can touch lives in the way that she has touched mine. My thoughts and prayers go out to the McWatt family, may God comfort you in this tough time.

The McWatt Family,
Kaite was a role model for kindness and doing the right thing. Her spirit was powerful and I know she made a difference in so many students' lives and her community. I was so honored to know her.

In her time on this earth she touched many and we are all blessed to have known her. God speed and rest in peace.

My thoughts and prayers goes out to the McWatt family. Mrs. McWatt was a wonderful woman. I have nothing but fond memories of her. She was always there with a good listening ear, a kind word and a warm smile. She touched my life and she was very inspirational to me and many of the other students that attended Central High School. She will truely be missed.

To the family of Mrs.Katie McWatt, my heart goes out to all of you in this time of sorrow. I will treasure all the memories of my dear CMEP leader, the woman who allowed the children of color at Central to express ourselves and to also learn , learn, learn. She made me proud to be young, gifted and black. I will miss her greatly but will always smile when i think about the warm smile and big wave that I receivedd everytime I saw her. Thank you for sharing her with so many of us.

What a wonderful person Katie was! It would be impossible to count the number of lives she has influenced; her incredible energy and caring will not be easily matched. All who knew her are today mourning her loss, especially those in the St. Paul community.

Chris, Tim, Lynn and Stacy,
What a delightful woman your mother was. You are so blessed to have had such a wonderful mother for so many years. She was always so full of life, cheer and goodwill. I was always amazed by her kind, patient and friendly spirit. I know all to well the sadness you are feeling at this difficult time. I pray that God will somehow comfort your hearts as only he can. The life and goodwill of your mother clearly lives on in each of your spirits and I know your mother is very proud of each of you and the lives you live. Oh that your thankfulness and gratitude for her life may somehow mitigate some of your present sorrow and suffering. I feel very privileged to have known your mother. She was a remarkable woman who lived her life to help others.

From one Ms. Ladee to another, you are phenomenal. R.I.P.
