Kenneth CANTER Obituary

Age 70 Born and raised in Washington D.C., moved to Silver Spring, MD in 1958. Married Angela M. Eisenreich in 1981 at Mount Zion Temple, St. Paul, MN. Passed away peacefully at Regions Hospital following a 20 year battle with Spino Cerebellar Ataxia. Preceded in death by father Maurice Canter and mother Jeanette Kirsch Traum, stepfather Dr. Aaron Traum, brothers-in-law, Leonard "Lenny" Eisenreich and Gale Grosch. Survived by wife of 35 years, Angela "Angie" Canter; sons Eric (Sarah) Canter and Dr. Keith (Brenna) Canter; brothers, Steven "Steve" (Virginia) Canter and Michael (Paulette) Canter; nieces Melanie Canter and Arlene Canter-Bowen; nephews, David (Flor) Canter and Joel Canter; sister-in-law Gloria Grosch. Kenny obtained a bachelor's degree from U of MD. and graduated from the Pennsylvania College of Podiatric Medicine (now associated with Temple University) in 1972. Kenny moved to St. Louis Park, MN in 1978, and was a pioneer Podiatrist at the V.A.M.C. in Minneapolis from 1978-2010, eventually becoming Chief of Podiatry. He was dedicated to the Podiatry profession and the veterans he served, as well as establishing a Residency Program. Kenny truly touched the lives and hearts of many people. He is well known to friends for his jokes, sports activities, and dedication to his family. Kenny had many lifelong friends and cherished their friendships dearly. When asked about what goals he had, his wish in life was to play "left field." Kenny's motto to live by was "it is what it is, but it will become what you make it." He will be truly missed, but memories of his life will live on through his friends and family. Funeral Service 1:30 p.m. FRIDAY, May 19, 2017 at MOUNT ZION TEMPLE, 1300 Summit Ave., St. Paul, MN. I too graduated with Kenny from PCPM in 1972 and the most stand-out memory was his smile. He never was negative and always positive about everything. We also shared being born in D.C. and growing up in Maryland. After graduation our paths took different directions but we would catch up at meetings and such and I will miss him alot. My sympathies and condolences to his entire family.

I was a student with Dr. Canter at the VA before he had a residency program. He guided me through the very first surgery I performed while I was a student. He and I also published a paper on a patient of his way back in the late 1980s.

I have been a podiatrist for 28 years. I have worked with many people. Some great, some not so good. Without a doubt Dr. Canter was one of the best. Kind, appreciative, positive and energetic.

My condolences to his family.

As a former resident under Dr. Canter I can say that I learned and grew under his leadership immensely and still use many of the skills he taught me. I always admired his compassion he showed and the skill he had in building relationships with both his patients and the hospital staff. His sense of humor was one of his best traits- we were guaranteed to have a few laughs everyday. I'll miss Dr. Canter and will honor him daily by continuing to practice the way he taught me.
