Kenneth THOME Obituary

Husband, Father, Brother, Uncle, Friend Ken passed away Friday, January 27, 2017, his 44th wedding anniversary. Ken grew up in Stacyville, Iowa and graduated from Marian/Visitation High School. He obtained degrees from Iowa State University and the University of St. Thomas, and was still active in the ISU Business School and Foundation. Ken spent a rewarding 39-year career at General Mills, where he enjoyed building relationships and mentoring colleagues. He met his wife while he served two years in the U.S. Army. Ken was involved with many charitable foundations, including the Minnesota Council on Economic Education, the National Council on Economic Education, Health Partners/ Park Nicollet, the Science Museum of Minnesota, and United Theological Seminary. He was very active at Wayzata Community Church. In his retirement, Ken enjoyed travels and days at the cabin with his wife, and trips and visits with his children, family, and friends. He was a golfer, a fisherman, a reader-of-history, and somehow an optimistic Twins fan. Ken was happiest surrounded by his family and friends, and we loved his ability to always see and bring out the best in everyone. We will miss him. Ken is survived by his wife, Janet, his children, Karen (Will) and David (Brittany), his four siblings, and many more beloved family and friends. A celebration of Ken's life will be held on Saturday, February 11 at Wayzata Community Church, 125 East Wayzata Blvd at 1:30 PM in the afternoon; a reception will follow. Memorials preferred to Iowa State University, Park Nicollet, or Wayzata Community Church or MCEE. David Lee Funeral Home Wayzata 952-473-5577 www.davidleefuneralhome.com

Coming up through the ranks at General Mills, I will remember how Ken always had a big smile and warm greeting for you in the halls. He was a big deal but knew everyones name. My best memory was a time we were both waiting at the elevator and Ken turned to me and told me he had heard about all the great things I was doing in Logistics. I commented on the big project that our division was working on. He says to me, no I mean the great things YOU are doing. Well as you might imagine, this put a big smile on my face for so many reasons to hear this from Ken. Love this photo of Ken as it captures his joy exactly! Condolences to his family.
