Betsy,
My deepest sympathy to you and your family in the loss of your father. I told Robin I ran into you at church on Monday and she told me about your dad.
I'm keeping you in my prayers and lit a candle for you at church today. Give me or Robin a call and we'll set up an evening to get together. Take care, Sincerely, Mike Samec

Tom and all the Keyes family,
I just read of your Dad's passing. He and Mrs. Keyes were long-time friends of my folks, Bill and Phyllis Cooper. Today's Pioneer Press wrote a very fine editorial about your Dad's life and legacy in St. Paul. He was a great man, and I know his passing is a great loss. I send my condolences to you all.

I'm sure it is very sad to lose a Husband and a Dad. But in the history of the Keyes men, Lenny has been with his family the longest. It is something to be thankful for, but still we all will miss him so. He and all of his family will be in our prayers

Please accept our deepest sympathies upon the loss of your husband and father, Len. Although we haven't gotten to spend much time with your family, we have fond memories of those times we did connect, and Leonard figured into all of them. He was a legendary character to some of our younger Keyes family in Milwaukee, but he was a good guy and friend to those first cousins who actually knew him, including our Dad, Bob. We know he'll be dearly missed. Peace and love,

Keyes family,
A member of the "greatest generation". He went to war, came home, went to Harvard and became a "student of the law". He learned that family was so much more important than fame. I'll miss his quick wit and seeing him do the NY Times crossword puzzle in ink. He set an example for all of us and will be dearly missed by those of us whom he touched. My prayers are with you.

January 27, 2010

Dear Donna, Anita, Tom, Patti, Betsy, Connie and Terry, My heart goes out to all of you during this difficult time. The tears come easily when remembering that Len died on the same day as my dad. Talk about two wonderful, respected men who were loved by all who knew them! I am sure they are in Heaven right now as I type this - reminiscing about all the fun times they had together over the years! Mal is probably playing Bridge with Dorothy!

Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with all of you. We will see you on Friday to help in the celebration of Len's life. Hugs to all of you! Take care of each other.
Love you,
Janet

To Anita and all my dear Keyes family:

I told Larry last night that if I had to choose one trait that spoke most of Len Keyes' character I would choose the word "integrity." This, of course, went along perfectly with the career path he chose.

More importantly, this model of living has been instilled in each and every one of you! What a beautiful legacy that is, and I know it will continue to pass on through many more generations to come, as I see it coming through already in all of you wonderful grandchildren!

I acknowledge his great sense of humor as well, which taught us all to be able to laugh at ourselves, simply because we're just human after all! "Hey, Joe...be careful not to trip over the 'Keep Off the Grass' sign, okay?" Or, you spell La Junta, "J."

I am so blessed to have you as my other special family, and regret I will not be able to be there for the services.

My special love to you, Donna.

I hold you all in my thoughts and prayers, and hope to come to Minnesota soon to see you.

With love,
Helen

Betsy, I am so sorry for the loss of your father. I remember you talking about him, he sounded like a wonderful man. He certainly raised a terrific daughter and that is the best legacy of all. His influence and humor and wonderful life lessons will live on in all of you. My father died 38 years ago and I still think of him every day. You and your family are all in my thoughts and prayers. Love you, Mary Lou Davis (Grand Haven, Michigan)

While I had only a nodding aquaintanship with "Lenny" (as was his "home town" name) I am prompted by old family ties to extend my condolences and sorrow to the surviving family members. Mrs. Keyes, of course, and because of my high school familinarity, friend Martha.
We are now the last in both our families.
I don't know if you ever heard, Martha, but my Mother (who, through church , was very good friends with your folks ) used to baby-sit the "Keyes Kids".

January 27, 2010

Dear Keyes Family,
Please know that you have all been in my thoughts and prayers since hearing of your loss. I offered morning mass and Adoration hour today for Uncle Len. The Gospel for today was the parable of the sower. With all the good seeds that Len sowed in his life, he is surely seeing the fruits of the harvest from his heavenly vantage point. I pray that you will be given much peace and consolation in knowing these truths. We will see you soon. Peace be with you.

Love,

Julie Keyes

In the past six months I had the pleasure of cutting Leonard's hair a few times, and I must say, even through the medical challenges that life had thrown at him, he had the best sense of humor, which I'm sure could attribute to his success's in life. He also passed that same sense of humor onto his children, good job Leonard, you will be sorely missed!
