"Mike" was my preschool teacher at Margaret Playground back in 1961. I have many wonderful memories of her hearty laugh and fun-loving spirit that she shared with all of us who grew up in the neighborhood. I'm sure our parents were most appreciative of her ability to "mother" so many kids! A friend and I have recently been sharing memories of Mike. She touched many lives with a great deal of love and care! God be with you during these difficult days. You will be in my prayers.

Pat and Mary,
My heart and prayers go out to the two of you and your families. I will always have fond memories of your mom and Margaret Playground. It was a safe and fun place to be. Your mom deserves a lot of credit for making that happen. I played a lot of basketball, football and baseball on those grounds. Everyone I knew respected your mom and how she managed the facilities. Many Harding athletes were developed there and there was some very good ones.
A lot of people owe a lot of debt to your mom. I can't thank her enough for helping provide a safe place for us. Thanks for the wonderful memories.
God bless,
Greg Steele

Aunt Pat and Mary,
I am so sorry I couldn't be there with you all today. I want you to know you are in my thoughts and prayers. She lived a wonderful life and one to be so proud of. She was truly an amazing woman. I have some very wonderful memories of her and Beans and Margaret too. Long time ago thinking of pre-school but Mike and Margaret is what I remember.
She is what the East Side used to be all about and she made people proud to call themselves Eastsiders!
Not to mention she raised some really wonderful women while she still found time in her life for so many others.
Rest In Peace Mike

Dear Sieland Family-
I was fortunate to have known Mike from my days playing football and hockey at the playground. We were lucky to have her at Margaret as our leader. We always use to laugh about how none of us would ever want Mike to get mad at us. She was so respected by all. Some of my fondest memories will always be my days at Margaret Playground. How lucky we were.

To the Sieland Family-
What a great lady. Will always remember her from my days at Margaret Playground. What great times they were. When I visit my parents on the East Side I sometimes drive by the playground and tell my kids about it. I'll let them know how lucky we were to have Mike as our leader. My kids play at the parks by our house but there will never be another person like Mike. How lucky we were.

I have many wonderful memories growing up next to and on Margaret playground. Mike was an extended family who made you feel special. She has touched the lives of many in a magnificent way. She was always smiling, in good spirits and a pleasure to see. She was a shining light to the East Side of St. Paul. I will miss her greatly, but with God’s grace she will start a new and exciting journey. I send my condolences to all.

Mary and Pat, I am sadden by your loss. Mike was a truly amazing person. Having lived right across the street from Margaret Playgrounds, I have so many fond memories of her. The Mayor's Christmas parties, perfoming the Maypole dance at Como Park Pavillion, daycamp, playing newcome, softball, jumping on the trampoline, the dances and all the special events she put on. She was Margaret Playground. She will be fondly remembered and greatly missed.

"HEY YOU!!! You with the head."
We will miss you. Most of my Eastside memories growing up are of the times I spent at Margaret playground. Mike was always there for us. I think I speak for everyone when I say that we all feared her and loved her. I remember the time some kid put his tongue on the railing of the steps leading up the the warming house and how she just shook her head at him and then took charge of the situation. My mom talks about a time that my younger brother (Joe) always brought home pictures colored in black. She went up to talk with Mike about this thinking there was something terribly wrong and trying to figure it out. Mike told her there was no problem, just that she passes out 1 crayon to each kid and somehow he kept getting the black one each time. Phew!!
To Mike's family, I would like to Thank You for sharing her with us all those years. She was truly an amazing women that lives on in many of us still today. She will be remembered with love.

Mary and Pat,
It is with sadness that I write this note. I first met your mom when I was a small child through my father and Uncle Frank. As I participated in sports for other city playgounds I always remember going to Margaret where Mike would always greet me as if I were family. As an adult when I was promoted in the Fire Dept she wrote the nicest congratulatory note that meant very much to me. She will be missed.

From as far back as I can remember, Mike Sieland "was" Margaret Playground. She was a tough, no nonsense director to the local toughs that hung around the playground and a caring mentor to the neighborhood kids. I played on several sports teams at Margaret during the late 50's and early 60's and have many fond memories of Mike.

Pat & Mary,
Even though we will be there with you, I just want you to know that your mom had a great influence on my life. The things I learned from her are far too numerous to list but most of all she taught me to think for myself and stand up for what I believe in. A day wasn't complete until we got to the playground and spent time crafting, cooking, decorating, skating, playing volleyball and softball.
With all my love and deepest sympathies,Your dearest friend...

"Mike" personified all of what's best about the East Side. I have thought of her many times over the years, and the memories bring a smile as I recall her no-nonsense approach. Every kid at "The Margaret" knew that she was a force to be reckoned with, and that nobody could put anything over on her. Her influence has probably contributed to the ultimate development of many upstanding citizens, and I think our society would benefit from a lot more "Mikes" in the world right now. It's not an exaggeration to call her a legend, as she truly was one. May she rest in peace...

Mike personified all the best of the East Side. Every kid at "The Margaret" knew that they could never get anything by her. I have thought of her many, many times over the years, and the memories of her no-nonsense approach to discipline always make me smile. I don't think it's an exaggeration to call her a legend. Many an East-Sider probably can credit her for the influence she exerted in their formative years! May she rest in peace....

The passing of Mike marks the end of an era. She is an unforgettable character. Young people today would do well to have someone with Mikes guidance and discipline in their lives. She is and will
