Marilyn FARRELL Obituary

Age 77, of Maple Grove and Nisswa, MN Passed away April 27th, 2017 Preceded in death by parents Dr. H.A. Schroeder and Laura L. Schroeder. Survived by her loving sons and their wives Patrick A. Farrell III (Ann) and Andrew M. Farrell (Alycen), her beloved grandchildren Michaela Rae, Connor and Liam, brother Dr. H.L Schroeder (Frances), sister Roberta Schroeder, niece Laura Fitch (Carl), nephew Dr. Harry Schroeder Jr. (Darcy), countless friends, and her loyal canine companion Siggi. Marilyn received both her undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Minnesota. Upon graduation, she worked as a speech and language pathologist in the Bloomington, MN schools, where she was recognized as an emerging thought leader in her field. After a decades-long hiatus to raise her sons, Marilyn returned to her career in speech therapy and early childhood development, this time with the St. Paul Public Schools. Over the next seventeen years, a diverse and ever-changing student population would benefit from her seemingly endless patience and tireless perseverance. Away from work, Marilyn was fiercely in-dependent, yet quietly elegant. While she cherished social gatherings and travel with family and friends, she was also an avid reader who cherished times of peaceful solitude. Marilyn especially enjoyed the serenity of her family cabin. Surrounded by loons on the lake, finches and hummingbirds on the feeders, and eagles soaring above, she delighted in knowing the earth has music for those who listen! Active in several philanthropic, book, and social groups over the years, Marilyn was also a dedicated member of Lord of Life Lutheran Church, and a committed participant in their Word for Women study group. Even as her health declined in recent months, Marilyn continued to enjoy visiting with her Delgany neighbors of Maple Grove and other faithful friends in the Twin Cities and Nisswa, MN. Visitation and Service at 10am on Saturday May 6th, 2017, at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 7401 County Rd 101, Maple Grove, MN. Memorials preferred to Lord of Life Lutheran Church, or any cancer-related charity.

I greatly appreciated Marilyn's talent, wisdom and wit during the years we worked together at Phalen Lake Elementary School in St. Paul. She was always up to figuring out how to meet the speech and language challenges experienced by a diverse student group. I rejoice that she lived her retirement years fully and well.Mary Chorewycz,Retired Principal

My family moved from Laos to Saint Paul in late 1980's. Mrs. Farrell helped two of my children. I remember her like other comment tough woman but kind and fair. Also very grateful for her help with children now grown and very well. If not for her we would have had hard time adjusting to language.

I had the pleasure to know Marilyn for 30 + years. I first met her when her son Andrew and I became friends when we were freshmen in high school. She was like a second mother to me. She graciously welcomed me and my family to her cabin in Nisswa regularly and I will always treasure my memories of this brilliant, strong, loving and amazing woman. God Bless you Marilyn, we will miss you so much. My sincerest condolences to Andrew, Patrick and all who knew and loved Marilyn. Sean Stokes (and family).

Andrew and family I am so sorry for your loss. In our college years your mom taught me that a woman can be just as determined and tough as she is sophisticated and sweet. I think of both of you often and the dinners she cooked for us.She was so funny and sweet! Thoughts and prayers to you and your family
