Mary MAIDA Obituary

Of Little Canada June 22, 1957-September 23, 2022 Mary died September 23, 2022, surrounded by her family. She was diagnosed with advanced ovarian cancer in November 2020. Mary has donated her body to further research at the University of Minnesota as part of the Medical School's Anatomy Bequest program. Burial will be at a later date in the St. John's Cemetery, Little Canada, MN. Mary was born in St. Cloud, MN to the late Arnold and Margaret Konz. She grew up in the small town of Kimball, MN, was raised on a dairy farm with her siblings, graduating from Kimball High School and later The College of St. Catherine. She loved her family immensely, and enjoyed being a mom to her two children, Mike and Maddi, and being a life partner and best friend to Thomas, her husband. She was proud to be a working mom, spending the majority of her career in information and knowledge management at Medtronic. Mary's favorite ways to spend time were with her family, traveling, the arts, music, and gardening. She valued kindness, creativity, hard work, and curiosity. Over the years she volunteered as a singer in church, Faith Formation council, election phone banking, and youth religion teacher, although she wanted to do so much more in her life. Mary is survived by Thomas Maida, her husband, Little Canada, MN, Mike Muscala, her son, Oklahoma City, OK, born to Mary and Bob Muscala during her first marriage, Madeline Maida, her daughter, Little Canada, and her siblings, Anita (CO), Mike (MN), Amy (MT) and Jane (SD). Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Arnold and Marge Konz. A Celebration of Mary's Life will be held at Saint John's Catholic Church of Little Canada, 380 Little Canada Rd. E., on October 7th, visitation starts at 10am, service at 11am and lunch will be served afterwards at the Double Tree by Hilton in Roseville. There's no need for memorial donations but if you wish, please make contributions in Mary's name to: MOCA, the Minnesota Ovarian Cancer Association https://mnovarian .org/ where she raised money for further research, or Second Harvest 2harvest.org as hunger was one of Mary's focuses, contributing to local needs especially. Mary left this message: "I have so loved this beautiful life, but most of all I've deeply loved my family who mean the world to me, and my dear friends and colleagues. You have made life meaningful. I wish I could have stayed longer. Carpe Diem."

I attended a lantern lighting event September 20 2024 at Lakewood cemetery. People were given a floating lantern that could be decorate with written memories and pictures of loved ones passed.

The evening was beautiful. It was filled with comfort, peace and for me, an overwhelming feeling of the presence of sweet Mary.

As the candle flickered behind her pictures, you could hear the bands soft music harmonizing with various conversations that filled the night with memories of loved ones passed.

There was some magical link between those attending as they rested their lanterns into the water and watched them slowly float away into the coolness of the night.

It felt like there was some mutual understanding, a common community bond that was connected through this celebration of life.

Tom & family,
We were so sorry to learn of Mary's passing. She sang in our choir at St. John's Church and was always so much fun. We admired Mary's commitment to everything she did and to everyone she loved. We will remember Mary fondly. May she rest in peace. God bless you all.
