Age 83 Of South St. Paul Born in Minneapolis, on October 11, 1930, to Theodore and Edith Savelkoul, Merriam passed away quietly, surrounded by family, at dawn on August 22, 2014. She was a graduate of the University of Minnesota with a B.A. degree, magna cum laude, in Psychology and an M.A. degree in Library Science. She also received her J.D. law degree, cum laude, at the age of 50 from William Mitchell Law School. After earning her law degree, she worked for West Publishing until her retirement. Merriam, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, is survived by her children, Robert (Kristi) Gorman, Jean (Anil) Nayar, Carol (Elroy) Cady, John (Sherry) Gorman, and Charlie (Kris) Gorman; her grandchildren Michelle (Jason) Gorman McNerney, Matthew (Jenna) Gorman, John and Sarah Cady, Lindsay, Lisa, Jay, David, and Peter Gorman; great-grandchildren Madeline McNerney and Jack Gorman; sister Dolores Savelkoul; step-grandchildren Sanjay (Amy Nicole) Nayar and Vivek (Jaclyn) Nayar; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Dr. William Gorman; her brother, Donald Savelkoul, sister Vyonne Savelkoul, and other relatives. She will be remembered for her intelligence, charm, warmth, and deep love of family and friends. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial 10AM Tuesday at CHURCH OF ST. JOHN VIANNEY, 789 17th Ave. N., SSP. Visitation 4-7PM Monday at ROBERTS FUNERAL & CREMATION CHAPEL, 8108 Barbara Ave., IGH; also 9-10AM prior to the service at church. Private burial.
