This is the first time I saw this obituary, since Uncle Nick passed. Aunt Maggie, John, Nick, Dan, my deepest condolences. I always remember the Christmas Eve celebrations and how much my mom loved her older brother. I also remember him and my dad lighting up a room with their stories and dry humor. Again, I'm sorry for your loss. He will always be remembered and missed.

Nick Cords was my American History/Humanities teacher in Albert Lea high school in 1960. He was a gifted teacher, engaging, personable and encouraging. He led us to enlightened understanding of our forebears' activities with his wry humor and a refusal to whitewash the story. Nick was an astute mentor and advisor and I remember him with appreciation and fondness. My condolences to you, his family.

I'm so sorry to hear of the passing of this special, memorable man.I had the pleasure of working with him at Lakewood/Century College; in fact he was the first history colleague I met when i started teaching at Lakewood in 1981. I will always remember his dry sense of humor and his frank, funny comments at Department meetings. The Dept. was never the same after Nick left.I will always be grateful to Nick for the help he gave my son in finding a good but reasonably priced saxophone. His inside information on the best mail order deals enabled us to buy an excellent instrument, which that son still has, and by the way, he is now a professional musician and song writer, thanks in part to a wonderful man who many years ago helped him find his first saxophone.
My deepest sympathy to his family and friends,
Gary Brueggemann

Nick was such a kind, funny, intelligent man. I always loved getting a great big bear hug from him. He was a great teacher and mentor to my brother at Lakewood. I will miss Nick very much!

I took a class of his at Century many years ago. He was a very good teacher, always kept things interesting. He had a personality (in his words a "curmudgeon"), that you don't forget. RIP Mr. Cords.
