To the Mancini Family,
You had a "One in a Million" with Mr. Mancini! I want to thank you for allowing him to share his love for great food & people throughout the years. Running a restaurant is a blessing and a curse; it gets in your blood - but it also takes you away from your home and your loved ones far too much.
Mr. Mancini was truly a kind and generous soul. I first met him when I was around 19 years old. A friend of Mr. Mancini's brought me out for dinner and we were immediately seated in what was referred to as 'the best seat in the house'. Not only was it one of the most memorable evenings, but from that moment on, Mr. Mancini would welcome me like a true family friend whenever I returned. He always took the time to say hello and he frequently offered me his signature spumoni ice cream - complimentary of course!
Mr. Mancini's legacy will be forever linked to the passion & lifeblood of St. Paul. He will live on as one of the greatest characters that helped define the cities unique charm, warmth and strength. 20 years & countless dinners at the restaurant later, I find myself still telling my children "I knew Mr. Mancini - and he was the real deal".
God's blessings and strength to each of you. Please know you are in our thoughts & prayers.

Last week I got a text message from a friend telling me nick passed away.I worked for mancinis for nine months back when i was sixteen. and as i read through all these entries, i smile and say to myself. "yeah, that was Nick".
I remember him saying get a cake for this table, even if there was no reason. I remember him giving my then boyfriend(who also worked there) a nice tip for doing something simple. he was generous. I can remember walking by a table and nick being there and the whole group just laughing at something.
My deepest condolences go out to the mancini family. my thoughts and prayers are with you.
and like other's have said. I am sure Nick is up in heaven, getting some a drink or cake :D.
Rest in Peace Nick Mancini. you are greatly missed and loved.

Working at the Mancini's restaurant was one of my first jobs. Nick would rush to the char-broiler and grab steaks and lobster to those customers that where not happy. When we received an order of steaks from a vendor, Nick would grab me and inspect every case of product. We would watch him take care of his customers like family. The customer was allways right. Nick made everyone feel like they where special. So Nick was one of my mentors. I remember Pat cleaning tables, bringing bread and salad to his customers. Recently I had the opportunity to talk some business with Pat and he has learned from his father. The family has been successful in business, but more rewards have come from their contributions to the community around them. We thank them all.

Johnny and Pat,
My prayers and thoughts go out to you and your family. Your dad was a great person, a great boss and a good friend. I will always remember working for your dad during highgschool and how he reopened the resturant after the grills were shut down and made my family and I dinner on the night I graduated from the police academy. He sat with us as we ate and we enjoyed his company imensley. I know that he has probably bought everyone in heavan a drink and is yelling at god "get em a cake." God bless you all.

To the Mancini Family...
Our most sincere sympathy in the loss of your husband, dad, and grandfather. When you say one in a million, usually it is just a phrase, but in Nick's case, he was, one in a million. When you say, what you give comes back to you 100 fold, that isn't just a saying, in Nick's case, that is an underestimate. Seeing the outpouring of love at his funeral, was overwhelming. Pat and John, you have big shoes to fill(according to Don Boxmeyer they were size 16) :), but seeing how you have taken over the restaurant, in such grand style, it is obvious, you have had a wonderful teacher, and are doing a great job! Nick will be missed, no doubt, but you can feel his presence when you walk in the doors of the the most beautiful restaurant on West Seventh Street. St. Paul and the West End was so blessed to have Nick Mancini grace our neighborhood for so many years!! Our best wishes, as you continue the legacy of your dad!
What a wonderful, generous, and sincere human being! I'm sure many welcomed him home with open arms!
May God be with all of you, in your sorrow!

To the Mancini Families,
I have celebrated many birthdays, family celebrations and anniversaries with Mancini's. I not only go for the food, but I go because I am treated like a part of the family. Nick would always come by and say hello and ask if we needed anything. And when we told him that all was good, he would not accept that - he would send a bottle of wine or champagne - when we had children, he would send a cake! He will be missed by many, each with their own story and Nick will have a special place in MANY people's hearts!! We thank God that we have been blest to have known Nick and been a part of the Mancini tradition! We look forward to many years ahead with the his decendants! May God Bless You All!

To the Mancini Family,
So sorry to hear about Nick passing away, he will be deeply missed.
Whenever I'm in town I like to go to his place. Its the passing of an era - like the old Bob Gallivan's place, Nick was such a wonderful host that you felt like you are visiting with old friends eating great steaks and drinking good wine at Mancini's. Thankfully, his tradition lives on with his sons.
It seems funny to go through the wonderful entries in this guest book and see so many names from my earlier days like Tom Azzone, Emil Fedeli, etc - they bring back so many memories of the way it was in "old St. Paul" - when my grandpa's St.Paul Auto Tire was at 9th & Exchange, I could walk downtown from St. Joe's. . . I wish I could be there.
I passed the notice on to my buddy Robert Hall - he had good things to say about Nick too.
I hope your memories will comfort you during this sad time.

To The Mancini's who remain...
My cousins, Vince and Leona Arceno who are friends of Nick, phoned me today to let me know of Nick's death this past week. I moved away from St.Paul about 50 years ago, but whenever I visited the old home town, we always went to the Char house where we were alway treated like royalty, and that was true for everyone who went there. The last time I was there, Nick not only gave us a cake, but I left with a coveted bottle of wine which I packed in my luggage with great care (this was long before 9/11) and saved for a special occasion...that precious bottle of vino was presented to my daughter and son-in-law the day their first child was born. But I have many other memories , as I am sure others do of the great times shared with him. He will definitely be missed. How lucky you are to have had him. My parents were also from the levee so knowing him goes back a long time, and thank heaven for keeping alive our Italian heritage. May God bless you who remain..

Our family often visits Mancinis for our celebrations. We always remember Nick as a great host, he asked what we were celebrating we told him my husbands' birthday and soon came not only one cake but we ended up having four. Our children speak of that often. Only a week ago we were there to celebrate another milestone as our daughter graduated from St.Kates and his son came up to our table and asked us what we were celebrating when we told him he soon he came back with a bottle of champagne. Nick was a great man and left his children with his outstanding hospitality and kindness. Thanks! Our family sends his our deepest sympathy.

Great memories of a great guy. Nick was proud of his heritage and always said that the FBI cap I gave him stood for "Full Blooded Italian." We were all proud to share the West Seventh Street mystique which Nick created. Whenever I was to town, I always spend one evening, sometimes two, at the Char House. I had the privilege to have Nick for my boss for 5 years. I worked at Mancini's in the 70's. Some of my favotite memories are from my years working at Mancini's. Nick was quirky, kind, generous and funny. One evening two rude men came in for dinner and were seated in my station. Nick noticed them right off and told me not to serve them...he did. He took their order, brought out their food & drinks, took them their check...and then gave the tip to me. He treated us like his family and he will always hold a special place in my heart.

Mancini's Restaurant was my dear friend's all-time favorite place to eat. She introduced me to this one of a kind restaurant many years ago
and each time we were there, Nick would come to our table and buy us a drink. Linda just died this past March after a long battle with cancer; but we made it to Mancini's
even in those years.
As everyone says, there will never
be another character quite like Nick Mancini. One of a kind, one in a million.
My sympathies to all the family.

To the Mancini Family,
We are so sorry to hear about Nick passing away, he will be deeply missed.
Nick was such a wonderful host at Mancini's. Not many restaurants treat their customer's the way Nick did, he really made you feel like a guest in his house. If you didn't know Nick when you walked in the door, you would know him when you left, Nick made sure of that. He had a way of making your dining experience special.
I hope your memories will comfort you during this sad time.

Dear Mancini Family,
Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to all of you. Nick was loved by many and we are certain his family and friends who departed before him are welcoming him with open arms at the gates of heaven!
He had the greatest work ethic of any man we have ever known. Though Nick is a tough act to follow, Pat and John are doing him proud. Nick spent many a night over the years talking with great pride about his family and friends. He will never be forgotten, and we hope all the special memories you shared bring you much comfort and peace when you need it most. Sincerely,
Tonya Rosario

May God bless you during this time of sadness. When we were dating,my then boyfriend, took me many times for dinner at the Char House. Nick always spoke with us. Then when my oldest son got married, we held his Groom's Dinner there. Nick made sure we had appetizers etc. He even gave the bride and groom champagne to take home and made our guests and us feel very very special. We will miss his smiling face when we come to the restaurant.
We are sorry for your loss
