Salvatore Falcone Obituary

Salvatore "Sam" Falcone, 90, of Westerly, loving husband of 64 years to Rose (DiCaro) Falcone, passed away at The Westerly Hospital on Sunday, March 9, 2014, surrounded by his family and friends.
Born in Pawcatuck, CT, he was the son of the late Charles and Rose Falcone. He moved to Westerly at the age of one and remained there, in a town he loved, for the rest of his life.
He was the owner and operator of Charles Falcone & Son, Inc., a general painting contracting company started by his father in 1929, which is still operating as a family business today.
A World War II veteran, Sam served in Italy and England where he was assigned to the 82nd Troop Carrier Squadron that participated in the D-Day operation, dropping 101st Airborne Division paratroops, then carried out re-supply and glider delivery missions the following day. An avid golfer, Sam was a former member of both Pond View and Winnapaug Country clubs. He was a member of the Calabrese, Lions and Elks clubs of Westerly and served on the board of directors of the Westerly Savings and Loan Bank. As president of the Westerly Lions Club and trustee for the Westerly Library/Wilcox Park Association, he was instrumental in the restoration of the Wilcox Memorial Fountain in honor of the park he loved since he was a child. Sam was a Westerly Republican Party member and served on the Westerly Town Council for one term.
In addition to his wife, he leaves three children, Charles Falcone and wife Rose of Westerly, Laura Parzych of Westerly, and John Falcone and wife Joy of Tampa, Florida; eight grandchildren, Kris Falcone and wife Kristal, Tara Holland and husband Cayne, Matt Falcone, Hillary Parzych, Michael Parzych, Samantha Falcone, Gabriella Falcone and John Falcone, Jr.; five great-grandchildren, Dylan, Gianna and Isabelle Falcone and Emmett and Kennedy Holland. His daughter, Deborah Falcone and his sister Angeline Gencarella predeceased him. Several nieces and nephews also survive him.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m., in Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly. Relatives and friends are also invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial in Immaculate Conception Church, 111 High St., Westerly on Thursday at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Sebastian Cemetery, Westerly. Rose
We were very saddened to hear of SAMs passing. I would never have met him if it was not for the Lions Club. I am proud to have had him as a friend. He was always the gentleman and I will always be thank full of the support and friendship he gave me when I was District Governor. Unfortunately we are in Florida but our thoughts and wishes are with you. He will always be remembered as a great person.

Rose and Chuck, so very sorry to hear about Sam. His kindness will never be forgotten. We were new to Westerly and he brought wine and soupy to us. He also invited us to Easter breakfast. This was very special to both John and me. He was a special man-- always smiling and always thoughtful. Wish we could attend his funeral but I will not be home until Friday. Lots of love to both of you and your families. Roberta Huntington

Dear Rose, Chuck, Laura, John & Families,

Sam was one of those genuinely nice people that you are blessed to meet during your lifetime. I don't ever remember meeting Sam that he didn't have a warm smile and infectious laugh. Westerly has lost one of their great citizens.

You will all be remembered in our daily prayers for God's Grace during this time of bereavement.

Who will ever forget Sam's warmth and sincerity? We have lost another piece of the Westerly legacy of hospitality and care for others. We have lost Sam, but hopefully not the lessons he taught us. Rose and family, his love began at home and overflowed to his town, state and country. What a man!
